The UN served its purpose in the Cold War, however, its usefulness has declined since the Cold War ended. If the UN wanted to return to the level of importance it had during the Cold War, it needs to update itself to the changing world around it.

I really don't know how to answer the poll. I'm totally ambivalent towards the UN. In some ways it's helpful, in others ways it's not. I wouldn't say I "support" it, nor would I say I "don't support" it. I'll need to think about this more.

I "slammed" you with a joke because you were being irrationally paranoid. You? You chose to basically insult me and my entirely family history, and my credibility as a refugee. You think you're MORE aware of communism than I am? Let me tell you something, junior -- you have no idea, not even an inkling of what it means to live under a totalitarian state. And you want to preach to ME, like I'm not being real? Like I don't care? Where do you get off? What gives you the right? You think the potato chips in the grocery aisle mean the government is trying to control you? You think giving homosexuals the right to do as they will means that an internationalist order is seeking to undermine morality?

Hate to break it to you man, but you'rethe butt of jokes. And that's not even an insult -- that's true. Do you ever wonder why so many people don't take your opinions seriously, in this thread or otherwise? It may have something to do with that homepage in your signature comparing The Monsanto Company with Adolph Hitler. Your political beliefs are schizophrenia, created by people either by people who are too intellectually bankrupt to believe anything else, or people who actively prey on simpletons like you.

And you call me ignorant for not assuming that the Fed controls the United States?

Without some semblance of an international framework to work with, humanity will never progress beyond a polar world, with the lesser nations becoming simple lackeys to the greater ones.

Though the UN doesn't have the capabilities to change that yet, across the years, it may yet evolve into such a body. So, I support it.

I definitely think we need to stay in the UN. The organization is far from perfect, but it serves its purpose reasonably well: to be a forum for nations to communicate and share their views with one another. If people are angry that the UN doesn't reflect their own nations' views (or their personal views), then they should really criticize the leadership of each country rather than the UN, because the UN doesn't have any political will of its own.

Besides, what is the harm in belonging to the UN? None of its decisions are binding in any meaningful sense anyway, and it is the best place in the world for our nation (or any other nation) to advocate its official position on a wide variety of issues.

anyone who actually believes the states have power over the fed is a dupe. you seem to have placed yourself

Re: Do you still support the United Nations?

It always seemed to me that the UN probably suffered from the conflicting politics of it's member nations and the politics of those nations conflicting with it's own intentions. That and a lack of funds to do anything of it's own initiative and not financially backed by someone. I think it gets a bad wrap. I think it was a puppet organization from the start. Something that enabled a few nations to set the standards for global politics and such...in my somewhat conspiratorial thinking...

Like we care. Just make sure you UN people clean the toilets good. I can't believe we let them stay here.

I have to wonder, as the world's third most powerful nuclear nation, the de facto leader of the European Union, a giant economy, one of the world's top five militaries, and a nation with huge political clout, why exactly shouldn't France have a veto? :P

Anyway, I tend to think that the Americans only dislike the UN because the UN doesn't often say "yeah, whatever, you can do what you want and **** everyone else". But if the Americans were to get behind the UN more fully -- not the government, but the people, the UN could be strengthened, bringing a boon to America as well as the rest of the UN members.
