Should GE have to pay taxes?

Most of you have probably heard about GE not paying any taxes in '09 (and even getting tax money back) due to clever loophole manipulation. Vote what you think of this.

Corporation ain't a person, it's a machine. Tax the money when it goes into the corporation and when it comes out of the corporation, and stop trying to stick our fingers in the gears.

Ummmm..... no. A corporation is treated like a person on a legal basis. For them to NOT pay taxes is VERY criminal to me and those responsible should be in jail.

    GE paid taxes.

PolitiFact Ohio | Rep. Marcy Kaptur says G.E. pays no taxes and creates no jobs but makes record profits

    Try again.

Furthermore, it makes no sense for the Federal government to tax worldwide income that cannot be sourced to any real material behavior or goods in America. So if GE lost the bank in the US but made lots overseas, it should not have to pay US federal corporate income tax.

GE's clever accounting trick was that they lost money in 2009. No income, no income taxes.

Absolutely. Especially if you want to sell here, when you're moving all your manufacturing overseas. They can either play by American rules or be treated like foreigners.

Re: Should GE have to pay taxes?

GE employs a total of 287,000 people world wide, with 133,000 employees here in the US with $70.5B in revenues.

All of these people pay income tax, sales tax, Local, State, and Federal, and spend money in the local communities, and an employer they have to pat their portion of the employees total withholding for Medicare for example, all this adds up and is helping in ways that are never considered when that case is made that they are rich and need to be hit and hit hard with more taxes.

So if we pile on does it cost jobs and reduce the taxes paid by all those who are laid off.

I say leave them alone and I think it's a no brainers because profit makes growth possible.

Exactly. Corporations aren't rich. They're nothing more than big stacks of money, owned by anyone who even so much as fancies himself middle class in this country.

Property doesn't pay taxes. You can tax property all you want, but it's always people who actually pay. We already tax the money when it goes in, and tax the money when it comes back out-- so why are we taxing the process itself?
