i think you have to define "class". the poorest person ever can have class. for me, it's dignity, civil behavior, etc, etc.

really? who says you wouldn't be fit? the social elite can be pretty pretty ****ed up people, in all kinds of ways.

That was my mother's mindset. But when we're talking the census - no. You stop being one class and start being another. Nobody will accept you in the other, but you would be entitled to be called "upper class."

Right now I am wearing a striped ralph lauren shirt golf shirt, a generic black belt from walmart, black steel toed shoes, white socks, and slacks. Typical work outfit.

However, one of the mechanics here tends to look like a cross between zz-top, disco, and jersey shore.

Yeah but Mega - that's just par for the course of being a guy... I think there's a hollywood skew out there that says class is wearing a tux for work and a suit for play. I have underwear older than most posters on DP and holier than Rev could ever think of becoming. Yesterday, I went to the UPS store wearing old deck shoes, dark socks, paint splattered shorts, and a t-shirt with a mustard stain wearing an old green John Deere baseball hat with huge sweat stains, and I drove my pickup there. Now... anyone looking at me would think I was some yokel and would NEVER have thought I was anything else, yet my income is 6 figures and my assets are, well... let's just say "decent".
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

Thinking about it, you are probably right. My parents have decent assets as well and they tend to wear old clothes quite often (in fact, my dad isn't truly happy unless he is repairing something and covered in grease, insulation, woodchips, or whatever)

Another way of looking at it, all of my good RL friends tend to be rich or young with a very nice income (lawyers and such) who are on their way to rich and conduct themselves as obviously high social class, but not snooty (snooty people piss me off). I am the poorest of my friends, in fact (now that I stop and think about it). Perhaps it means something, perhaps not. Not sure I really care, but it is an interesting thing to wonder about and if there is some underlying theme to it.

Dangit, this is one drawback about having a highly analytical mind. Now I am going to overthink this to death trying to find commonalities.

The best mechanic at my plant rarely gets his hair cut or has it brushed but geesh he's a hell of a guy.
Looks like a 100 lb wooly bully, in the coveralls of someone else.
