Are you proud to be an American?

I know that everybody here has their differences and that we rarely all agree on something, but as it is, do you think that America is a wonderful country and are you proud to be an American?

I, for what it's worth, am proud to be an American.
If you strike me down, I'll become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

No. Why would I be proud of something I had no control over? It's just by an accident of birth that I was born here. I can understand the pride if someone is an immigrant and actually had to work hard to become an American...but I don't understand why those of us who are natural-born US citizens have anything to be proud of.
    Are you coming to bed?
    I can't. This is important.

Because, however miniscule, you have influence over it.

Re: Are you proud to be an American?

I reserve pride for things that I have done myself. I don't take pride in the accomplishments of others, but I do honor the sacrifices made so that I might have the freedom to accomplish the things worthy of being prideful.

IMO in a Democracy people get the government they deserve, and in this sense I believe we the American people should not have pride, but should be ashamed.

Haymarket's "support" of the 2nd Amendment, a right he believes we never had.

    Pride is irrelevant.

Honestly, I am more proud of being Southern born and bred, 6 generations. I more proud of that.

Re: Are you proud to be an American?

it's become "unfashionable" to be proud to be an american nowadays. i remember back in dem gud ol' days....we's
were taught to be proud of dis herr country and it's history. we were taught that "manifest destiny" was a great achievement.
now, kids are taught that "manifest destiny" was little more than a bunch of bloodthirsty, slave driving crackers
who plundered the peaceful red man from coast to coast. this loss of patriotism has had a negative effect on the nation as a whole.

That is the way most Southern people are raised: family, state, the Southland, the United States. In that order of identification and loyalty. Yes, of course there are exceptions to every rule.
