Tell it, Dezaad! I'd give you two likes if I could. Your response is bang on.

I see our electorate/political FUBAR a little different than your comment but see our views connected:

"A long time as passed since “We The People” decided to hand over our collective credit card to the United States Government to be used to recklessly create and accumulate debts for goods and services far beyond our credit limit and ability to repay. Sadly, we continue to allow such behaviors despite knowing that the government’s objective is to protect its own power base (including the power of special interest that fill their coffers with gold, frankincense, and myrrh) and it ongoing quest to proliferate its size." ~~~~

We just can't stop ourselves from handing over our power to the government.

In practice we're not far from an Oligarchy, in that the real movers-and-shakers are an elite club that's hard to get into, and a plutocracy where those with the money dominate the political scene.
I agree with this assessment. I would add that we are somewhat a corporatocracy - which also falls under financial elitism.

The candidates are approved before the anyone votes, so this is quite a silly and contradictory argument to make.

Our system is in a kind of contradiction to itself, so it is unsurprising that a person has made the silly mistake that it is I who came up with the contradiction. But I am merely pointing it out.

In effect, we have ignorantly acquiesced to an oligarchy. But we do retain the power to dislodge it, through the mechanism of the legal structure of our democratic republic. It would take a lot of work, and we would have to convince a majority that it was necessary and worthwhile, but the power is legally available. In the absence of this effort, we have the rulers we deserve.

We're more on line with an oligarchy, actually.

Though that's not how things are suppose to be run around here - that's the nature of the beast.
