His wife is out of town and he is lonely and horny and decides he'll do a blow-up doll. Because it's not a real woman, he believes it's not cheating. Is it?

has he cheated?

He's provided me a damn good laugh is what he's done.

I say no. Most (not all) men apparently masturbate quite frequently even within a highly sexual relationship. It's the body keeping a fresh supply of semen ready by getting rid of old semen. In this case, rather than his favourite hand - he's used a rubber woman.

Sorry, off to have a laugh now.

No, it's not cheating, any more than a wife using a vibrator or dildo would be. A sex doll is just masturbation with a prop.

By today's standards no. By the letter of the Bible...depends. If he wasn't thinking of his wife, then it is likely cheating. If he is thinking of his wife it is not...but still icky.

Now what if instead, the man were married to the sex doll, and had sex with a woman, would that be cheating?

It might lead to the sex dolls ego getting a bit deflated.

Reminds me of a joke:

Once upon a time, there was an inflatable boy. The inflatable boy lived in an inflatable house, with an inflatable family. He went to an inflatable school with an inflatable teacher and even an inflatable principle.
One day, the inflatable boy took a pin to his inflatable school. The inflatable teacher let out a gasp and sent him to the principle's office.
The inflatable principle said, "I'm very disappointed in you son. You've let your school down, you've let your teachers down, but most of all you've let yourself down!"

The Bible's purpose is to show the existance of God(and Jesus), IMO.
Nothing else, it was never meant to be a "guide to sex" or a "how to"..

It's an inanimate object. Would it be cheating if he screwed a cantelope?

Not that I live my life on the Bible or anything, but the Bible's purpose is pretty subjective. Since you qualified with post with "IMO" you obviously know that neither of you can be deemed factually correct. So for KSU, the Bible determines these things. For you it doesn't. For me, it's Aesop's fables.

Oh gosh. Here I am again with might be a unique opinion/view. It doesn’t even look like I’d be part of a minority. Oh well.
Every response I’ve read so far is judging a marriage by their standard and that standard is the only valid one. There are some legal requirements for a marriage, too many I think. Concerning sex in a marriage, what is agreed to is OK, what is not agreed to isn’t OK. And, I shouldn’t be part of it if it isn’t my marriage.

I wouldn't myself think it was cheating. As long as the husband is honest about what he's doing and not trying to hide the doll and the wife is cool with it, it's all good.

My wife just informed me: "No. He's just not getting enough!" I think I'm doing great.

Are you serious?
Well I answered no and thats based on my opinion but I can't really see any logical reason that solo masturbation would EVER be cheating by any rational person.

But then again its not my marriage.
Its NOT cheating IMO but there might be cause for concern if you and him havent had sex for a long time because he says no but yet he is always banging his doll or something along those lines.

Not to me.

I think it ridiculous for people to consider a normal level of masturbation, even using props/toys, as cheating. It may be unhealthy, if it is done too much or in place of sex with a willing, available partner, but I still wouldn't call that cheating.
