Is abortion "wrong"?

This needs to be dumped into the Abortion Forum ASAP... for the same reasons we keep ME stuff in the ME Forum.

How so, MistressNomad?

Abortion is not acting upon a sentient or independent life, except for in extreme cases of medically necessary late-term abortion, in which case it is the lesser of two evils.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo tired of debating this.

Elective abortion is okay before 20 weeks gestation. Abortion is only okay after that in case of a non-viable fetus or a direct and severe threat to the mother's health or life.

Of course it is.
But define wrong.
We humans are humans, not gods, we simply cannot be perfect.
Every day, an imperfect or wrong act is commited upon a woman; then in response she commits a "wrong" act..
Until we are all in heaven, if this is the next step, we must accept things as they are.
And, I do not subscribe to this business of "abortion is murder"....not until man is perfect...

Let's start a new thread and call it, "Is Wake wrong?"

Is abortion "wrong"?

Dear Wake,

The word "right" is very abstract. So I guess it might hold water that the word "wrong" is also abstract.

Even more abstract are the underlying issues that serves as the boiling pot for abortion, which are; Zygotes, Embryos, and Fetuses.

Your "poll" is but one more way of framing the question that has created screaming matches in DP over whether or not ZEF's should be allowed to be aborted because of differing perspective on questions like "viability", "personhood", "human", etc.

The topic is a never ending revolving door. The tug of war between Moralists and Constitutionalists will never go away.

The S.C. has made a ruling (the law of the land), which lays out the parameters of the abortion do's and dont's. In all likelihood, the standing ruling by the S.C. isn't going to be overturned because it is tied to other important privacy decisions and would strike those down as well.

Most Churches have voiced their objections.

Many individuals who have voiced their objections or approvals - have weighed in.

At this point-in-time, given standing laws. Individual beliefs are even less likely to have enough influence to have Congress to create a Constitutional Amendment that prohibits abortion than to get the S.C. to overturn the standing ruling.

Question:

So how do you want to see this thread evolve beyond YES - NO - UNSURE?

Respectfully Yours,

RM

Families decide which children are worth giving names to. Women decide which children are worth giving birth to. It's the natural order.

Wake, I'd like to respond truthfully, but I was recently awarded three points for suggesting that another poster had the brains of a large rabbit. I can't afford to do that twice, so I won't. I would ask, sincerely, the point of your question? Along the lines of RM's post I would suggest that asking if abortions are wrong is also asking if abortions are "right". I don't know that the question is valid or at least I would suggest that the question is poorly worded.

I would never suggest that you were trolling, but I could understand where some might think so.

Is abortion "wrong"?

It's not wrong all the time... I don't like abortion. I hate abortion, but sometimes it's justified... usually not IMO, but that doesn't mean it should be illegal nor does it mean that women whom abort should be shown disrespect or doctor's lives should be threatened. I think it's better for it to be legal and safe.

If abortion is wrong, I don't want to be right.

that's not the "natural order". the natural order of man, and most other species, is that of the male dominating the female.
when this order is disregarded like it is now? you see what happens. moral decay. social disintegration and chaos. the destruction
of the family unit. if any woman would EVER kill my child behind my back....whether born or unborn.....she better be willing to pay
quite the high price for that action. she'd be lucky to be alive afterwards.

Yes, it's taking a life for the sake of convenience, but forcing a woman into near slavery is also wrong, hence why I'm for killing the baby for the first few months.

At least you realize what is happening.

Only in your Orwellian existence.

Why twenty weeks? Sounds pretty arbitrary to me.

indiana has made abortion illegal past the "20 week" mark. i believe it's because that's when
science has determined the child can feel pain.
