    An Enlightened Choice

Here's a question someone asked me today that I thought was pretty cool.

If you could be granted complete enlightenment but you would have to die 5 seconds later, would you accept?

If you don't know much about what enlightenment might look like, or you just don't care, then this poll might not matter much to you.

And for the semantic types who are going to ask me to define enlightenment, I can't really define it completely because I'm not enlightened. It might look like some figures from history though, like the Buddha, Jesus, etc. One might call enlightenment full attainment of spiritual awareness and knowledge, and thus complete freedom.

Generally, no, I wouldn't, but there is one exception.

I would defintiely accept that proposal if I was already going to die in five seconds or less. Especially if it was less.

Not just now, I've still got things to do.

Ask me again when I'm 75, I might have a different answer.

Nah...Ive already seen 'the big picture' and 'the thing'...I cant imagine 'complete enlightenment' is going to live up to the hype...

Seriously...we are going to get complete enlightenment when we die. One way or the other.

No because after I get enlightenment I'd have to spend the rest of my life in complete boredom.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

No. Enlightenment is a goal but it is the journey to the goal which is important. Besides, enlightenment comes after your physical body dies anyways. Or so I believe.

That sounds like a crappy trade. What good is enlightenment if you are going to be dead five seconds later? It would be like winning a 100 million dollar lottery and you are a 110 years old and going to die before you can even collect a lump sum.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Other.

I'm already mostly enlightened, so all is well here.
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.
