Regional political stance vs national

Does your City, County, State, Region have a mainstream difference in political platform vs the national platform for your ideology?

As an example. In Texas, feelings about illegal immigration are often much more lax than the national debate.

I live in Louisville, Ky and there is definitely a difference in the political narative completely. Louisville is a Democratic island in a sea of Republican on the national level. The state historically stays with Democratic governors. In terms of issues, both parties seem somewhat less aggressive on the national issues, however even our Democratic governor is heavily criticizing President Obama for his tough policies on coal.

Where I am in North Carolina is a bastion of blue, in an otherwise largely red area of the state. Literally if you live across a county line you are considered a redneck, or a douchebag hippie liberal. The state level overall has been held by democrats for over 100 years (state Congress wise) until this last election cycle which republicans won. There is an interesting debate going on with education, which North Carolina ranks low in, and there was no uproar over the low ranking until republicans took office. Somehow, without having yet passed a budget of their own, the republicans are being held responsible for the poor ranking. The republicans are trying to streamline education costs by removing administrative positions (not cutting teachers jobs as is being portrayed). It's been an intense education debate here in the state that I think is the main focus here, more so than nationally.

I live in a twilight zone, of sorts. Texas is leading the nation in job-creation, i.e., laissez faire economics. On the other hand, however, it's a sprawling, 'Brown and Black' society, riddled with Socialist sympathies, passions and outcries. It's crazy.
