Not over the director level, no.

Could all those managers you spoke to who agree with you provide a united front to support that position? Or is the politicking happening at the level that they belong to, or are they caught up in the politics as well?

Do you actually work for a company> This is how the game works in all of them, if they grow to sufficient size.

Is it possible to go over the heads of the managers politicking and talk to somebody above them who are more interested in investing in good reliable equipment and software for the business than in livening up their lame lives with stupid drama that would cause the business to run more inefficiently?
Yeah, what could possibly go wrong trying to go around and over those above you in the hierarchy? I mean, telling your boss's boss that your boss is stupid is always a great career move.

I don't hold any kind of office job with a large business, no. The reason why is because of **** like this. And I would rather be homeless and pander for money and risk dying violently in an ally or wasting away from some kind of illness than try to earn it doing stupid **** alongside incompetent people who only try to make my job harder because they're ****ing tools.

But that's just me.

It is if your boss *really is* stupid, and therefore costing your boss' boss more money than he should be spending.

Its just a job. I don't worry about this type of stuff (and mostly I don't care beyond a vague sense of "is the company doing well in general? if is healthy financially?") I just try to do a good job with the stuff I have control over.

Well have you gone as far as you could with regards to the things you have control over? If so, then you're fine. If not, then consider what other options you have and go for it.

But if it's "just a job" and the level of managers above you really are infighting so much to a level of incompetence that you describe then I would just do whatever my boss tells me to do and keep my head down. I wish you the best of luck.

1. Its a job and not a moral crusade. I am not going to take up a moral fight for anyone but myself.
2. Every large company in the entire world operates in this manner.

In that case, best of luck to you.

I will be fine. The company is financially healthy and if the project fails, blowing 2million on it isn't going to change its position (its a multibillion dollar top line company). Given that it will be rolled out in stages, if things go wonky, it will be much less than that.

What do you think you owe your employer? You should absolutely leverage them into a position where you are more useful to them. You seem to know how the game is played, so why are you so hesitant to play?

In any case, you have given good objective reasons why the implementation you want is better for the company. If it is the same advice you would give if asked your unbiased opinion, then there's no conflict of interest.

Disclose any conflicts of interest. Speak based on personal experience. Don't embellish or overstate the advantages or disadvantages.
