Seriously. A billboard??!

Should he be forced to take it down?

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

Nope, he's entitled to free speech. She has just as much right to put up a billboard right next to it, saying "Sure, if my boyfriend wasn't such a douchebag".

I do not think so a medical issue and even so? I hope someone beats this dudes ass. What a prick!

What medical issue? She hasn't claimed one.

In any case, I note the call to violence. From a liberal.

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

If it isn't already against the law to baselessly accuse somebody of murder on billboard, it should be.

The operative word in the ad is "kill," not "murder," or even "abort," which is where I would have gone if I had billboard money. And really bad taste.

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

I haven't read this entire thread.. So if this was mentioned.. Sorry..

Should fathers have any rights or say in the abortion of a child?? As it is right now, a woman can decided to keep the baby and force him to pay child support for the next 18 years.. Or simply abort it and be done with the whole thing.. He really has no say at all currently..

Yes, a father should be able to force her to have the child, and then raise it on his own.. Yes, she should then be forced to pay child support..

Or.. Both parents have an abortion option.. Meaning he can waive his parental rights and be free from paying child support.. Much like a women does when she has an abortion.. The law currently favors the mothers.. To the point of almost being criminal in my opinion..

Should he take the sign down?? No.. While I am not sure I like the way it is worded.. He has every right as that babies father to express his views about abortion or her having an abortion.. If he can be stuck with 18 years of child support on her whim, she can live with a little embarrassment caused by a billboard..

As for the law?? It should support him 100%.. For the reasons mentioned above..

It's cases like these that really test my principles. I want to say that this man requires intensive therapy and that he should be held in a supervised facility until he's capable of acting like a human being. I want to believe that. But what I really think is that he should be forced to paint over the billboard by hand and then pay, out of his own pocket, for a billboard with his name and picture and the slogan "I HARASS WOMEN" to remain in place for a minimum of the amount of time the original billboard was displayed, and then until the advertising company feels like replacing it.

I suppose he could probably get the therapy he needs after that.

She's 18. He's 35. She got pregnant, wanted to get married, he refused. But he wants a say. I'd say he dropped his right to a say.

And he doesn't even know what happened to the pregnancy. If she'd been a member of my family, his life would redefine suffering.

There are several reasons why the law doesn't support him.

1. It's obvious harassment
2. It's libel
3. It's an attempt at a disclosure of (alleged) medical records of someone else

Her name is mentioned on the billboard (NANI is a fake acronym which just happens to be her first name).

Also, something of note, the father can decide to use a condom or simply not have sex with the woman in the first place, I'd call that plenty of say. By your logic, a woman should be able to force the man to not wear a condom (if she wants the child, then who is he to say that she can't have it?).

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

Abortion is base, and to many it is killing innocent life. Life that should enjoy the fullest protection of the law. Are people not allowed to express it so? Why?

My next question to those that voted "no" is what other speech are you folks willing to sacrifice? Perhaps Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States should have their opinions redacted, for they are public.

I cannot accept the Court investing mothers and doctors with a constitutional right to exterminate human life.

Justice Byron White
Appointed by JFK

Now, the use of "exterminate" brings to mind Mengele type behavior, and though I cannot say what was on the Justice's mind at the time of writing it, I wouldn't doubt the use connotes that gruesome, base association.

Perhaps, abortion supporters uncomfortable with being challenged head on, the dissent of Justice White in Roe v. Wade should be redacted, or perhaps we should have some Language Polizei or Language Tzar address his statement so it doesn't offend those who think killing unborn life is more palatable than his assertion of extermination.

It's despicable, but falls under the category of protected speech. I detest this kind of idiocy, but the repurcussions of banning it is even more unpalatable.

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

I believe he should be forced to pay out of his own pocket for an ad in the same spot with his face and name and the slogan "I HARASS WOMEN", to be displayed for the same length of time as the original ad is displayed until he is forced to take it down.

In addition to court-ordered therapy.

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

You want your wife to live in fear of the kitchen?

I thought that was what the feminist movement was all about? ;)

You should have put a ring on her finger first you dumb ****. Seriously, **** you asshole, the abortion is as much your fault as it is hers. This is what happens when you choose not to act like a man; she can kill your children at-will and there isn't dick you can do about it. Way to go, father of the year. I hope you choke on your boyfriend's ****.

While I agree that the guy is a douche, being married wouldn't necessarily have changed anything. She still could have had an abortion and he couldn't do dick about it.

It's just occured to me, if we prosecute this guy do we have to prosecute everyone that does similar on facebook, twitter, forums, blogs, etc? Or does "public" qualify this somehow.

Either she prosecutes him for libel or this is more BS I've wasted my time on. I don't give the slightest crap about either of these people. Douches exist, so? Do we need a million bad-cop and bad-significant-other threads?

Tripe (+??!)

The problem is that your entire post reeks of a double standard.. She also can choose to not have sex or be on the pill.. So why should she be able to get an abortion?? Sorry.. But your that part of your post is irrelevent.. If he can wear a condomn then she can take a pill.. If he can choose not to have sex then so can she.. By my logic she can force him not to wear a condomn?? Dude?? Lay off the Canadian hash!! No more trips to Vancouver for you!! I never said he could force her not to have it.. Please read my post again.. I did say that he should be able to force her to have the child, so he can raise it on his own.. He is the father after all.. He should have just as much right to that child as she does.. It takes two to make a baby.. Two should decide what to do with it.. If she has the option to terminate the pregnancy and basically walk away.. He should have the same option, should she decide to have it..

It isn't harrassment.. And there is no liability.. There is also no disclosure of medical records.. You are grasping at straws.. Is a billboard that says smoking can cause cancer a disclosure of medical records?? Give me a break!!

Her name being Nani is irrelevent.. The general public doesn't know that.. Fake acronym or not.. He is legally covered.. The general public doesn't know her real name nor do they know the acronym is fake.. Unless you can prove they do, then the legal arguement is closed..

The problem with that is.. That would be harrassment and whoever did it would be liable and he could collect damages.. You all may not like this billboard.. But in reality.. There is nothing wrong with it and it is protected.. As I said in my other post.. As long as the public doesn't know her real name is Nani, and they didn't find out what her name is from him.. You can't legally touch him or the billboard.. That is just how the law works..

I said in my first post in this thread that I don't like the wording.. What I do like is how helpless it makes fathers appear.. We have no rights according to the law.. It is an issue that should be addressed.. There is no reason courts should favor the mothers when it comes to custody.. There is no reason a man should be forced to pay child support for 18 years for a 1 night stand.. Yes he could have wore a condomn, but he isn't the only one that should have done something.. As long as a women has a right to an abortion.. Which I believe they do.. Fathers should also have a right to an abortion of sorts.. We should have the right to walk away.. I can tell you right now, if a women had face the posibility of raising the child alone and bearing all the expences of raising it.. She might also thing twice about opening those legs or perhaps will put more thought into taking a pill..

It is all an issue of being fair.. She shouldn't be able to entrap him into providing her with an income for the next 18 years.. Even if it forces him to live beyond poverty..

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

So it's harassment when the courts do it to him, but it wasn't harassment when he did it to her? No sir, that does not fly.

You all may not like this billboard.. But in reality.. There is nothing wrong with it and it is protected..

Like Hell. There is everything wrong with it and there are multiple legal remedies. What I want isn't legal, but he can be ordered to take down the billboard and he can be held in contempt of court for refusing. He can be charged with harassment. And he would be liable for pain and suffering and punitive damages if she pursued this in court.

As I said in my other post.. As long as the public doesn't know her real name is Nani, and they didn't find out what her name is from him.. You can't legally touch him or the billboard.. That is just how the law works..

You mean as long as the public doesn't know what you know, that you have learned from the national media coverage the billboard has attracted?

I said in my first post in this thread that I don't like the wording.. What I do like is how helpless it makes fathers appear.. We have no rights according to the law..

A scumbag that refused to marry his pregnant girlfriend and then did this after she told him she miscarried?

The only time I want a subhuman spokesperson is when I'm arguing for ape rights.

It is an issue that should be addressed.. There is no reason courts should favor the mothers when it comes to custody.. There is no reason a man should be forced to pay child support for 18 years for a 1 night stand.. Yes he could have wore a condomn, but he isn't the only one that should have done something.. I actually agree with all of this, but none of it has anything to do with what happened here. Further, there is no cause that I support so much that I would stand next to filth to promote it.

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

She's not some nameless, faceless.

I dunno. I just think he gives new meaning to the word "jerk".

That's the wonderful thing about this country - people are free to be a jerk and to speak like one, act like one, and embrace their inner jerk if they so choose. Don't care if she was named, her picture was also on the billboard, etc... it's his free speech to be a jerk. He disagree's with the mothers decision and he's saying so in a very public way. If he misrepresents what occured in the public spectical, certainly he's open to libel but then again, that's just my view which is in no way based on our legal system.

There's a reason why I noted, twice, that I wasn't talking about this particular case, but was speaking in general.

In general - never acceptable to post abortion / miscarriage / relationship / health anything on a billboard unless it's a 'will you marry me?' sweet thing.

But if it's to embarass, humiliate, hurt, create drama = unacceptable.

BUT if someone's hurt over an unwanted abortion - YES - they have the right to voice their opinion and unhappiness. Of COURSE. Every single person has the right to express their emotions, grief, anger, frustration. . . just not on a billboard.

And if she had an abortion - which may/may not have happened - after evidence of his lifetime of douchery has come to light - I don't blame her if she did.

As I said, in this particular case, it sounds like this guy is just a douchebag.

Addressing the idea more generally though, have you considered that having one's SigOther abort one's unborn child against the father's wishes might drive the guy a bit around the bend? A man who wanted that baby, who wanted to be a father, who considered the unilateral abortion to be a shocking betrayal and repudiation of what he thought was a loving relationship, could easily be driven into a temporarily irrational state by such a situation. A reaction like this (billboard) might seem reasonable to someone who felt like their entire world had been laid waste by someone they trusted, in such a disturbed state.

Don't underestimate how terribly such a thing could break a man's heart and ruin his judgement, if he really wanted that child and it was snuffed out before he so much as had a chance to say "Wait a minute..."

(Again, I'm not talking about that guy in the story; I'm speaking more generally.)

We're always being asked to have compassion for the woman with an unwanted pregnancy; I'm turning the coin over and asking for some consideration about a man's feelings when his unborn's life is taken out of his hands without so much as a discussion.

So wanting a baby and not getting one can drive a man around the bend, make him irrational, lay his entire world at waste, break his heart and ruin his judgement, all this without even affecting his body at all? So for a woman whose body IS enormously affected (pun intended), how do you think she is affected by NOT wanting a baby but getting one anyway?

If it can be proven that she either had an abortion or told him or someone else willing to testify that she did, then I suspect he's done nothing wrong....truth being the ultimate defense in cases of libel and slander.

I don't feel sorry for her. She picked the goofball.

Dailymail article

According to this other article he states that he:

doesn't know how the child died. He said: 'But if it was abortion, then my purpose is to try to prevent this from happening to someone else'.

So, yeah - obvious libel - he even admits it's libel. He doesn't actually know anything about how things happened but went and did this anyway.

And - you're right - he's a nutter:
He listens to a diverse range of music and lists Bill Gates and Satanist author Anton LaVey as 'people who inspire' him. He lists the TV show 'Big Love' and the 'Saw' movies as favourites.

Really - Anton LaVey as a guy who inspires him. Geesh man. . . what a way to pick 'em

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

Flip this around....

Lets say he had a picture of him smiling and looking all healthy with the caption "This is what I'd look like if my ex-girlfriend didn't give me HIV".

Add to that he has no factual evidence that his ex HAD HIV and he's slept with other people so it may not even have came from her.

Would that be legal in your mind?

You're borderline revealing private medical information to someone on an extremely public level, which I could see veering into the harassment category. If it wasn't for him putting her name up there in an attempt to use it as an acronym for a group that doesn't exist, I'd be leaning a bit the other way. However, because of that, I can see where it falls potentially more on the illegal side.

I think he's a grade A douche bag and jerk, and if it turns out there's nothing legally wrong with what he did then so be it...however, I have no issue with it being examined if he did violate the law and if he did, even slightly, throwing the book at him.

Re: Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard

A scumbag that refused to marry his pregnant girlfriend and then did this after she told him she miscarried?.

According to one of the links posted earlier on, she refused to tell him if she miscarried or had an abortion.
