Circumstance of Birth

Do you believe that "Circumstance of Birth exists?

I also believe it is a function of the human experience but the human experience continues after birth.

You and others have stated that psychological characteristics are determined prior to birth. I think believing one can know this with certainty is asinine.

.

We have found genes that indicate certain psychological characturistics. It is well-understood there is a genetic link to many forms of mental illness, which is the most obvious example. But we've even found a "fanatic gene." That can be expressed in numerous ways, but the point is that the predisposition may be genetic.

Stating that people may not be able to choose their general disposition is not the same as excusing them for whatever they do. It simply changes the methods of self-management and what affects certain things may have on them.

There are things about myself I am fairly certain are inborn. I see them in much of my family. Even my half-sister, who is very like my mother even though she was put up for adoption as an infant and never met my mother until she was 21.

This doesn't mean I take no responsibility for what kind of person I am. It just means that these are things I have to take into account when I am contemplating how to develop myself.

You also appear to be back pedaling.

Why were you so insistent that a person's psychological characteristics are established prenatal? Does it make you more comfortable?

Er. No I'm not. I said from the start that we are a circumstance of birth.

I just said, again, that they are established prenatally. Has nothing to do with comfort. If anything, I'd rather get to choose - might be easier if I started with a perfect psychology. But that's just not reality.

All I said is that just because many of these things are pre-determined doesn't mean they all manifest in the exact same way.

Do you actually read the posts you reply to?

Exactly, surely there's a point for all of that.
