You don't like what Obama's doing, so you'd move to a country with universal health care, strict gun laws and no actual freedom of speech? :lamo

It's the accents...they're sexy. :p

After reading The_Patriot's post about his dad's comments following Waco, and knowing my own feelings on the subject, have any of you considered relocating. If so, where would you move and why.

Yes, Costa Rica or Belize.....cheap land, less invasive govt, relatively stable...and both are beautiful and tropical.

Who would not jump at the choice to better their circumstance? A government that refuses to be accountable and responsible for the health of the economy. Rich who take credit for wealth they themselves in no way have been responsible except through a system of legalised corruption. A middle class who will not stop their outrageous consumption. The poor who kiss the ass of those who have control. Sure this exists in many other places, but not to this degree. Almost any other English speaking country could better the position of an American who had the opportunity for citizenship there, unless they're attitude was the any of the said attitudes above.

On a personal level the policies put in place in this country trap me, a person able and willing to work, from not working on the radar. I myself would be more productive under policies that weren't so idiotic.

I have thought about it, but the only reason I'd leave is economic necessity. A friend retired a few years back, and he had been getting "International Living" magazine. He had his eye on a retirement community in Mexico; he went down to visit and reported it was not as nice as the magazine painted it. He stayed in the US.

But, others report that they retired 10 years ago, they can't go back to work and they can't live on their retirement income. They don't want to live in Mex. as first choice, they they have to in order to survive. I'd certainly consider it if it comes down to that.

Come to Taiwan... Americans are generally well liked here...

I am U.S.-born but have lived most of my adult life in Taiwan. I haven't surrendered U.S. citizenship, but I currently represent Taiwan in international sports events (though this will likely be my last year of international competition) where I once represented the United States.

It's hot as a muther****er and it stinks and drivers and scooter/moped-riders and pedestrians are all equally insane.

Ping-pong?

While it breaks my heart to admit it, yes--I have considered leaving the country. I do not like the socialist direction this country is headed and I fully understand that unless things change drastically my wife and I will never be able to afford to retire in this country regardless of whatever savings we may accumulate.

Where would you like to go instead?

When you get outside the urban areas, they are beautiful places to see and be in... and if you want to live the relaxing life, go to the coast in Hengchun or the east coast. Taipei is not Taiwan.

But I agree, scooter riders are nuts...

The grass is always greener, once you get there you may very well finally realize just what you had before you left

Poisonous snakes and spiders, poisonous trees, poisonous octopus, and the world's only poisonous freaking mammal. I hear great things about Australian women, but honestly, I think I'd be too afraid to put any part of them in my mouth.

A close friend has spoken about moving to either Switzerland or Panama. As an international businessman, he can live in these places and visit the US for business. Many people like him have the ability to do this due to modern communication and the ease of travel. They vote to keep their money with their feet. And when the country pisses in the face of business, they can move their plants and production elsewhere. Rightly so.

This isn't like Carter's 1970's disaster economy. People can do the above with ease. China, India and the former Commi countries all afford opportunities for business and businessmen to move from tax punitive, regulatory hostile nations.
A 62% Top Tax Rate?
Democrats have said they only intend to restore the tax rates that existed during the Clinton years. In reality they're proposing rates like those under President Carter.

 Well I've never had a spider crawl out of anywhere unexpected, so I think the women are pretty safe.

Well I went and came back ok. I can vouch for the safety of at least 3 of them.

I can't say that I haven't thought about it.. I can't say that I don't still do.. When people like Sharon Angle or Christine O'Donnel can actually get people to vote for them.. Our nation is a scary place to live.. I am not happy with where our nation is going.. I don't like to many of our politicians.. From either party.. There are a lot of major changes that I feel need to be made.. I just don't see them being made in my lifetime.. There are to many people right now that want to sit back and think how awsome our nation is, when we are really not that great anymore.. Soon we will no longer have a presense in space.. Many people are against a public option.. Which is the key to our medical cost issues.. To many people want to sit back and say that Michael Moore is bias, but don't want to make the effort to prove him wrong.. They don't want to acknowlege a source of information.. He is just an american trying to educate the rest us in hopes that we can vote for some change..

Who wouldn't think about leaving?? We aren't even a nation that extends equal rights to all our citizens nor are we a nation that fully respects the word of law.. And now.. Like other terrorist nations.. We torture our prisoners.. Simply pathetic.. This isn't the nation I grew up in.. Sometimes I wonder where that nation went..

The grass is greener in Australia.

Strictly opinion :) but I have to admit that australia would be one of the few places I would consider going..."IF" I were so inclined

I love my country, my family has shed alot of blood for her and some have given all. I may sound too patriotic to somes liking, but until I believe theres something better...Im going to stay patriotic :)

The only thing that really bothers me about our country is our declining nationalism. A nation with no nationalists is no nation.
