Edit the King James Bible?

Should the King James Bible be edited by anyone within or without of the church?

Do you think portions of the King James Bible (and earlier versions) should be erased?

There's multiple verses in the New and Old Testament that speak against homosexuality, adultery, fornication, etc. There's also many other verses that are unpopular with our society, so shouldn't we change them? Since the Bible is full of bigotry and hatred, why not mold the Bible to our liking? Shouldn't we have new Christian churches that can help progress Christianity?

Not only no but hell no. You do not **** with other people's religion. You can create the whiny liberal eurotrash politically correct for ******s edition of the bible that would be merely a pamphlet after heavy editing but it should not in any shape or form be used to replace the King James or any other version of the bible, it would merely be the eurotrash politically correct for ******s edition bible that doesn't offend anybody except for actual Christians. I am surprised that no one has made a pc edition of the bible. Instead of the story of creation it would be a summed up version of evolution, Thou shalt not pollute and thou shalt use energy efficient stuff would be commandments, any commandments regarding sinful sexual behavior would be removed, and it would advocate that the government tax the living hell out of anyone making over a 100 grand a year.

That's between you and your god. If you think that's what he wants you to do, then by all means do so.

I would like to add some more laser swords and some space battles.

Vote on it. That was how the Bible was originally put together. so it only makes sense that is how you should decide these things. A council of bishops in the 3rd century got to decide which books were inspired by God and which were not by voting and thereby put the Bible together, so obviously Christians should all get together and vote.

Such sad little creatures. Wake's proposal, whether misguided or not, would at least be undertaken with purity of intent. I honestly do not understand how these morlocks don't see that suborning their faith to a political agenda is blasphemy.

Well that is the thing. I don't think his proposal is with purity of intent. While I personally do not think there is anything wrong with homosexuality, others do not feel the same way as I. So, to some it could look like you are liberalizing (wow that is actually a word) the Bible compared to make it more conservative as the people at Conservapedia are trying to do.

Too bad God can't vote on it..

Well, it had to be editted to become the King James version, and it was editted and revised and condensed when it was originally structured by Constantine. The three major sects (Protestant, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox) all have different versions, so that's another edit. I would venture to say it isn't outside of the realm of possibility.

Bibles can’t be corrected; they are incorrect by their own nature. The existence of different versions of even the various christian bibles proves they are incorrect; and the errors when you compare a bible of one religion to another are manifold. Besides, there is no religion that allows human correction of divine revelation. So, why even talk about correcting a bible. One should either accept (believe in) them as they are or move on and think for oneself.

You are apparently clueless as to how the KJV came to be as it now is. If some church wants to edit it's canon, AGAIN, that's up to them. There is no need for any FURTHER involvement by government.

You are one of the few people I have seen that gets beat by his strawmen.

The King James bible was translated by eurotrash writers all, commissioned by a eurotrash king (and celebrated sodomite) and is written in a eurotrash language, i.e. English. What's your issue with eurotrash?

The ways I heard it told was that God hand delivered the bible to George Washington, right after he admitted to chopping down the cherry tree.

I do not believe in censoring any books! Especially holy texts. I was angry over the revisions in the greats like Huck Finn!

Actually, King James did some of his own editing. There are some good books out there about this and some believe the Bible actually says very little concerning homosexuality.

This is my biggest problem with religion and those that over preach or judge or force it on others. Mass religion in many ways is a joke, and the people that dont know how to let well enough be, start to cause problems and make religion get judged as a whole (which is also not fair)

Anyway I believe in god, I believe in a higher power I just believe that god gave me a brain for a reason and wants me to use it!

The hypocrisy among "some" religious people is just staggering.
For example religion changes or decides they dont follow certain rules or have new rules all the time. . . well . . . . SAYS WHO!? lol. . . did that particular god come down and tell us?

thats BS and why religion rubs a lot of people the wrong way, well not religion but those that use it for a tool to judge and push an agenda.

ON THIS PAGE THIS IS ALL GOSPEL AND IF YOU DONT DO IT YOU ARE A SINNER AND BURN IN HELL!, what about whats on this next page, "oh that, we dont do that anymore we decided thats just an example or a sign of those times, not our times" LMAO

hypocrisy like that never works to smart objective people? lol

you actually see it on this board daily

Don't they do this already, whenever they undertake to form some new splinter sect?

Wake's proposal could arguably be interpreted as an effort to return to the purity of Christ's message. I don't hold with it, but it isn't my god so it's none of my business. The Conservapedia project is explicitly a politicized project.

Too bad God can't vote on it..

I thought your god could do any damned thing he wanted? If there's a vote and he abstains, that's on him.

If someone wants to change the Bible, let them. Why not? If it sells well (and they don't get successfully sued for it), then maybe people prefer that version to the other versions.

Does anyone have a copyright on the Bible? I really am just wondering. Can someone be sued for changing the Bible and selling copies of it that are almost identical to one version of the Bible or the other, with maybe just a few things changed to make it fit with a particular religion's beliefs? How much would need to be changed, I wonder?

Except when those supposed strawmen are notions I have entertained that I disagree with, RStringfield.
