Re: Are you sure there is no God ?

No, I'm not sure there is no god. I am sure there is no evidence that gods exist. Or Santa Claus. Or the tooth fairy.

Then you probably agree with me that people who claim to be sure there are no gods...are just guessing.

Re: Are you sure there is no God ?

Actually...it does.

Until you can establish something to be impossible...it is possible. Just possible.

According to your reasoning, something which is objectively impossible is possibly possible whether or not you think it is possible or impossible. I mean, you say god may exist within our reality despite known physics which would suggest god is impossible within that realm because we do not know all of the rules of physics which we may someday possibly know or not know. All of which means you think god is a possibility despite not knowing whether god is a possibility.

What I am saying is: It is possible that gods exist.

It also is possible that gods do not exist.

What I am saying is logical...and right on the button...

...to everyone except people who want a blind guess to be important.

Play with it as much as you want, Russell...but in the final analysis...you know that IT HAS TO BE POSSIBLE.

Of course not. They're making an intelligent decision based on the available evidence. Those who believe in a god are guessing and praying.

There is no evidence pigs can fly and there is no evidence they can't fly. But, based on available evidence, guessing that pigs can't fly is a much more logical choice than guessing they can fly. Consider the two guesses to be equal is irrational.

Ahhh, now I get it.

You are saying although YOU are not sure...you think THEY ARE SURE.

C'mon!

How can anyone BE SURE there are no gods?

They are just guessing...and you should know that.

Those who believe in a god are guessing and praying.

And those who "believe" there are no gods are just guessing.

So...you do agree with me.

Great.

You have finally admitted your position is ridiculous. Great.

Nice try...if you are a schoolboy.

If you are an adult...it was an absurd attempt.

My position is not ridiculous.

Re: Are you sure there is no God ?

There is just as much evidence for a childs imaginary friend as gods. When it comes to imaginary friends we can dismiss them without drawing fire from agnostics or from science. there just isnt a rational reason to believe that a childs imaginary friend exists. We all know that they imaginary friends are imagined and not real and cannot ever be real. But for some strange reason people think gods are different than imaginary friends. The reason that people set gods above imaginary friends is because they want to believe that a god exists or they dont want to offend those that do believe in a god. Or something along those lines.

We need to stop letting people act like children in debates. We need to hold them accountable for what they are claiming. If you claim that gods are possible prove it opr get off the pot. Dont just claim that no one can prove that gods dont exist. FFS thats what theists do, they want you to prove that their claim is false. It is a deflection of burden of proof.

It comes down to this: The possiblity of gods is a claim. Just the same as someone claiming that a god exists the burden of proof lies on the person making the claim. The problem is that people that assert that gods could be or may be possible cannot describe what it is that they think might be possible. They just say that gods may be possible or something along those lines. Then refuse to explain anything about what a god is.

Gosh, I hope your ears don't hurt from the fire that just came of them.

It IS POSSIBLE that there are no gods.

That means it is POSSIBLE there are gods.

I understand that you have made a blind guess that there are no gods...and you are determined to hold your breath until you turn blue unless other people say your blind guess makes sense.

Well...there are some people who think your BLIND GUESS makes sense...

...but some of us have enough intelligence to realize that it actually doesn't.

You want proof, do ya?

Well...you are saying it IS NOT POSSIBLE that gods exist.

So...prove it.

If you cannot...then, in effect, you have your proof that it is POSSIBLE.

Yea I guess to you imaginary friends are possible too. It isnt rational to make up something and expect it to be possible. It doesnt work for little kids and doesnt work for adults..
Seriously no one rational needs to prove that imaginary friends do not exist. Gods are no different than imaginary friends. ANd if you think they are different, then you are a believer.

AT any rate to your challenge of proving that it is not possible that gods exist: There is no coherent description of "gods", individually each god imagined has its own attributes. There is damn near a infinite number of definitions of gods. The defining factor is that they were all imagined. Not one god has been described by evidence. So what you are really asking me is to prove that all imagined gods are impossible. Well that is easy; they were imagined, so yes they are all impossible. Just as impossible as a childs imagined friend. If you want to believe that imaginary friends/gods are possible, go for it. You wont convince me that they are possible unless you can show evidence of them being possible, not fake philosophical babblings of illogical and irrational conclusions.

Are you saying you cannot define a god...so therefore gods cannot exist.

Wow. We've seen examples of out-of-control ego during this election campaign so far...but that goes beyond anything I've seen from the preeners.

IT IS POSSIBLE GODS DO NOT EXIST.

IT ALSO IS POSSIBLE GODS DO EXIST.

Try to live with that. After all...you can still claim to be an atheist if all you do is lack a belief in a god. It is not necessary to fall of the edge.

Nope didnt say that, but that hasnt stopped you yet.

The same exact reasoning that allows for imagined gods allows for imagined friends.

Actually...it doesn't.

The question I am dealing with is, "What is the true nature of the REALITY of existence?"

One of the questions that arises is, "Is what we humans call "the universe" all there is?"

Another is, "Was it created?"

Another, of course, is, "Are there gods involved?"

Silly theists say, "Yes, of course there are gods involved."

Even sillier atheists say, "No, there are none...and their existence is an impossibility."

Hey...no problem with people being silly.

Many comics are.

Do you do stand-up?

Theists ask questions like: Was the universe created or are there gods etc.

The rest of us dont. That is because there is no rational why to ask such questions without confirmation bias. You have to first believe that such things are possible. if you do not believe that such things are possible then those questions become just what they are: fantasies.

You obviously believe that fantasies are valid questions. Why is that? Oh thats right you do no believing (my apologies). So either you have knowledge that such questions are valid or you are just asking ignorant questions about fantasy. Try as you might you cannot come up with a valid reason to ask if gods exist or are possible without invoking fantasy. Go ahead try it.

It is called special pleading and it is what you will get from fundagelical dogmatic agnostics and theists alike, they are the same side of the same coin, they act alike and 'defend' their nonsense alike. It is why they hand wave away every and any analogy regarding every and any other imagined crap that you can pull out of your ass. Avoid engaging presuppositionalists because you will not get a debate or argument, they are dishonest.

We do not know if this thing we humans call "the universe" is a creation or not. If it is, there may be a god.

IT IS POSSIBLE GODS EXIST...JUST AS IT IS POSSIBLE THERE ARE NO GODS.

The fact that you think it is logical, reasonable, or scientific to simply state that consideration of gods is invalid...IS A LAUGH.

You are exactly like a door-bell ringing theist thumping a bible...except that you are blindly guessing in the opposite direction.

I love ya. When the atheists who argue "all we do is to lack a belief" come around...people like you are my best argument.

You too, William.

You are my best help when the "we only lack a belief in gods" pretend that is what atheism is about.

I love you guys.

I am not the one that believes that gods are possible. That is your argument. ANd that is exactly what I am rejecting. This isnt about what i believe its about what you believe. And you have asserted a thousand times that you believe gods are possible. Deal with it.

Re: Are you sure there is no God ?

I am not the one that believes that gods are possible.

I do not "believe" gods are possible either. I KNOW it is POSSIBLE that gods exist.

That is your argument.

As I have noted many times, I do not do "believing" so there is no way I have EVER made the argument, "I believe gods are possible."

ANd that is exactly what I am rejecting.

Reject away.

No one is prevented from being wrong on the Internet.

This isnt about what i believe its about what you believe.

If it is about "believing"...it is about what YOU believe...because I do not do "believing."

And you have asserted a thousand times that you believe gods are possible.

I defy you to find any place where I asserted that I believe gods are possible.

I DEFY YOU to do it.

I have asserted that "it is possible that gods exist...just as it is possible there are no gods."

Deal with it.

I just did. No...we will see if you are ethical enough to acknowledge that I have never asserted any such thing.

Re: Are you sure there is no God ?

That is your basis of proof?

Hey, since you cannot prove he does not exist, then he might?

Yeah...and since you cannot prove I am not God...then I might be. Now bow before me and do as I say unless you can factually prove with an absolute, scientific certainty that I am not God.

Who are you raving to?

Re: Are you sure there is no God ?

The problem with the question of this thread is it's looking for an absolute. It's a trap where the lack of total certainty is portrayed as a big possibility of the superstition being true. Anyone smart enough to reject the god myths will still balk at answering yes to the poll. Not because they think there is a valid uncertainty about gods existing, but because in all honesty the multiverse is a big place and who knows what's out there. Even with the almost certainty that the christian, muslim, jewish, roman, etc gods being myth.

I cannot think of a god that has been "worshiped" during recorded history that I see as anything but a MYTH.

That does not impact on the question of "What is the true nature of the REALITY of existence?"

The REALITY is that everything we humans suppose we see may be an illusion created by a single thing...a god. The REALITY may be that this thing we humans call "the universe" is a creation...and whatever created it...is a god. The REALITY IS that we humans may know as much about REALITY as a backyard ant knows about the cosmos.

There is the POSSIBILITY gods exist...just as there is the POSSIBILITY there are no gods.

Some theists and some atheists are stuck with their blind guesses that there is at least one god...or that there are none.
