Do you agree that the universe will end one day ?

Do you agree that the universe will end one day ?

You remember the Big Bang, where all this stuff explodes and travels through space? Well it'll all come back together when it collides on the other end, and then explode and go the other direction.

All that stuff is like a bad penny, I guess, say a Brit might say.

I'm sure it won't happen in my lifetime :) but yes, of course, the known universe will one day cease to exist.

are you a believer ,calamity ?ok I saw you were not.question is invalid

I believe the universe will either expand to a point to where it can't expand any further, and then contract upon the weight of its own gravity or the universe will expand indefinitely until no more energy is left to expand it. At that point, some billion or who knows how long into the future all stars will die out and we will exist in a cold, dead universe.

Which is exactly what I said and people got mad at me. Go figure.

This is based off of the laws of thermodynamics. Everything goes to higher entropy and lower enthalpy, or lower energy states. Eventually, the entire universe will cool.

On that I will have to take your word for it. I was under the impression this was still largely theory and that other theories showed an expanse without signs of slowing (which isn't to say it would never slow). But...layman and I'm sure it shows :)

Our sun will burn itself out as a shooting star long before the universe dies. That will be the end of thinking about it in our solar system. Our planets would no longer have a gravitational pull to orbit the sun. The earth could eventually find it's way to another star to orbit. It will be a dead frozen rock by then.

I don't know how we could know. It's hard to understand how there could have been a beginning or an end to existence. Ex nihilo is a difficult concept. But if there's a God, there's a Way. ;)

There are no gods.

Everything we know about the universe, we know by applying reason and logic to claims and arguments, the old fashion way, like the ancient Greeks did it.

Random speculations and emotional based wishful thinking is just useless and counterproductive. It could be entertaining, but not anything to base real knowledge on.

With all we know right now, we can infer that the phrase "end of the universe" as presented in the original post, is just meaningless.

What we know about nature-

1. Everything dies/comes to an end
2. There are destructive and constructive forces/good and evil

I believe these two things are universal.

Maybe.

Depends on what you mean by 'end'.
There are many ways the universe could end. Heat death (entropy), big crunch, some as of yet unknown man made event (related to Higgs or something). All these ways could be considered an 'ending' but all are very different.

The ultimate defense of the serial agnostic.

Does god exist? Maybe.

Do apples grown on trees? Maybe.

Do bears sh*t in the woods? Maybe.

There are scientific theories that would predict an end, but in the end it is still unknown. A flat universe, such as one created through a vacuum Genesis, could theoretically exist forever.

I don't know if the universe will end or not, but it certainly won't in my lifetime.

You are comparing apples and bear feces to oranges though.

It would be more like:
Is there life on other planets? Maybe
Are their alternate universes? Maybe
Do gods exist or does God exist? Maybe
Do apples grow on trees? Obviously
Do bears **** wherever is most comfortable for them? More than likely

Ok here's an oranges to oranges ones:

Do unicorns exist? Maybe
Do microscopic pixies live in the manes of said unicorns? Maybe
Is there a civilization of mermen at the bottom of the mariana trench? Maybe

Or how about:

Do you exist? Maybe.

If the only thing that we can truly know is 'I think therefore I am' then "maybe" and "you can't prove it doesn't/isn't" is an answer to every question. And it's an intellectually lazy answer at that.

But there's a difference between something being possible and something being likely. There is a precedent for life, we're it. There is a precedent for universes, we're it. That makes it at least worthwhile to consider the possibility. Have we seen any actual examples of gods? Anywhere? Is there any actual evidence that any gods exist? If not, then why should we even consider the possibility? We don't seriously consider the possibility of leprechauns or unicorns, why gods?

you cant decide that

you cant decide that

Yeah, we can. We understand the physics behind it. We know that there's no way in hell, barring something we have no clue about and that's extremely unlikely, that the universe will end in the next several billion years.

you cant decide that

I can't decide when the universe ends. But unless I live forever, the universe isn't ending in my lifetime. In fact, the universe isn't going to end before the human species is no longer what it is today.

All those links you provided earlier, did you ever read through them and look at the time scales being discussed?

again you can never control that.prove you can

of course I did.but as a believer I claim we humans can never make sure when it will end........

Actually the universe will end...

............... When I die...

.......................See...

..............................You are all part of my imagination.

You haven't got the slightest clue about science, do you? It shows.

I distinguish the science from the religion unlike you.but no person can make sure when it will happen.science is not god
