The Bible is Completely Immoral[W:197]

Re: The Bible is Completely Immoral

As csbrown pointed out, here undoubtedly come the mental gymnastics and apologetics. Look, we get it, the average Christian is not a violent monster, but that's only because you don't actually follow what the bible tells you to do. It is one of the most vile and disgusting pieces of literature on the planet, it advocates violence and it paints the picture of a god who throws hissy fits and kills millions upon millions of men, women and children. He even goes as far to tell his armies to murder all of the non-virgins, men women and children, and take all of the virgins, children included, for themselves.

I for one am glad that the modern Christian cherry picks the handful of parables and suggestions he finds most comforting and doesn't follow the whole thing literally, otherwise we'd be seeing ISIS level violence. Good on you, Christians for subjectively rejecting the worst parts of your holy book. :applaud

Liberal enlightenment tamed Aslan, it will do the same to Islam eventually.

Please read the OP again.

Killing of Homosexuals in the Old Testament:
Leviticus 20:13
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
And? That would be the Creator's imposed morals for his creations to live by.

My personal morality is superior to the so called 'Creators'.

If that entity is the Creator, you are wrong.

Re: The Bible is Completely Immoral

How do you figure?

The Bible is supposedly the word of the creator who told his creation what morals to have.

Just because you do not believe that and have a different set of morals as well, does not mean it is immoral.
Frankly if it is the word of the creator it can not be immoral as those are the beliefs we are supposed to have.

So maybe you should just settle for these are not your morals and that much of what the Bible says is counter to them, especially as absent a belief in G_d given morals to follow, all morals are subjective.

You are defending the bible from a relative morality standpoint. Problem is that biblical morality and relative morality are in contradiction. The bible is claiming that these rules are part of its absolute morality and since these rules have a very negative effect on society Christians should tell us using reason why these things are right from an absolute morality standpoint.

I believe most of these verses are bad because they have a very negative effect on society. For example suppression of women, generational punishment, homophobia, and banning divorce in the case of violence all have very negative impacts on society so it makes no sense why they should be rules for society.

Nope, where shall we start? Let's have a look, erm... number one is Genocide so, lets look at my list and... nope not there on mine but, that 'Creator' dude, hell he has form on this one.

Re: The Bible is Completely Immoral

Isn't this whole thread based on culture views of morality and equality?

These verses are societal rules and societal rules should not have a negative impact on society. You would probably not vote for a law that would be harmful to your society. I am arguing that these rules have a very harmful impact on society.

That applies to any man that lies with another man.

Yes, but If God is the creator he can still be an a**. But even that is a big IF. IF Hitler is right, then the holocaust was acceptable. Another big IF.

What you say is irreluvant as I already addressed it twice. You should learn to pay attention next time.

You realize comparing anything to Hitler and the morality of what Hitler did opens up a big can of worms. I would not go there if I was you.

The bible tends to be very sexist and mostly deals with men so it is no surprise that it only talks about men in the case of homosexuality. It does the same thing when talking about divorce.

Most people logically conclude that these rules extended to women as well. I am willing to strongly bet that the Ancient Israelites probably didn't see lesbianism in any better light than male homosexuality. They probably got stoned too.

First off, don't confuse what I state with what I may or may not believe about a Creator.

Your interpretation is flawed as it is based on your opinion and nothing more.
If the Creator is real then it's imposed standards are not immoral. Period. They simply can not be as as they come from the Creator as the way we are supposed to live.
That isn't even an argument that can be made.

Everything outside of that belief is subjective and all you can truely say is that you do not believe in those morals and the reasons why.

So again, "maybe you should just settle for these are not your morals and that much of what the Bible says is counter to them, especially as absent a belief in G_d given morals to follow, all morals are subjective."

Or in other words, those beliefs are not moral in your eyes.

Wrong.
You can not tell the Creator what is or isn't moral. It tells you what is.
All you can say is that you refuse those morals and believe differently.

Re: The Bible is Completely Immoral

Not if we overthrow him.
The supposed Creator is omnipotent. That would preclude any overthrowing.

Never underestimate the power of humanity. We can do it!

Re: The Bible is Completely Immoral

No. You calling G_d an ass would be you not accepting what you told and substituting what believe instead.
The "Ifs" are a given, but your arguments are still wrong.

IF Hitler is right, then the holocaust was acceptable.
Good thing we are not discussing Hitler then, huh?

Re: The Bible is Completely Immoral

Hmmm? Let's see.
Omnipotent against impotency? Nope!

Re: The Bible is Completely Immoral

Wrong.

I think you might be confused...

the arguement goes as this...

The Creator the bible portrays is perfect and perfectly good... and the bible is the word of this Creator
moral=Creator=Bible

Bible teaches something immoral, >> moral=Creator=Bible=immoral
So from this we can get...
The Creator in the bible is false
or, The Bible is false(therefor we need to look for a new Creator)
or, We are false(these things are actually moral and we should kill gays, rape captured women, have obedient slaves etc.)
or, immorality is morality...

I see you are going with the last option... immorality is morality... Which I just think is false...

I trust my instincts and my own view that killing, raping, enslaving people brings pain, it does not follow the golden rule, therefore immoral

So I go with either the Bible is false or the Creator in the bible is false.

Sure, humans have limitless potential, but the gods are static and cannot evolve. Humans can rise up, hell the Tower of Babel proves God's fear of a united mankind. Why would he fear us if we were no threat to him?
