What does Satan want?

Ihave talked about thisquestion with many people and Iseem to get the same couple of answers.Normally in these three varieties. Satan wants your soul, to be god, or to destroy God.But my question is deeper than that. To what end? If he wants your soul, why, what does he do with these captured souls? If he wants to be God, how would his prospective kingdom differ from God's? If he wants to destroy God what would he do after that?
Satan can have my soull..so could god too..would they fulfill their promises.

 when you are bitter and angry against someone, and seek to harm them, do you have a master plan? Or are you bitter and angry and seeking to harm them?

Does Satan know he's going to lose? Probably - though if humans are any evidence, the power to self-delude may be impressive. What's left? Revenge.
Vengeance? I don't know.

Elimination of all muggles/mudbloods and a pureblood society.

Satan is like a lost sheep that god wants to bring back to the flock.

I think God and Satan are symbolic of lightness and darkness...good vs bad....body vs soul...seen vs unseen... yin and yang. They could also be symbolic of emotions...love vs hate...happy vs sad...charitable vs selfish...trust vs suspicion...blame vs forgiveness,...etc. Also, war vs peace, famine vs plenty, disease vs healthy, etc.

If God rules over the spirit then Satan rules over the flesh. In Hindu, God would be the crown chakra of enlightment located at the top of the spine near the brain...and Satan would be the root chakra of bodily awareness .located at the bottom of the spine near the anus...which is as low as it gets. So if I had to guess what Satan wanted it would be darkness, ignorance, hate, greed, insecurity, pain, sickness, filth, war, famine, suffering, etc.......and of course God would want the opposite.

Not to spoil the elaborate deliberations here, but who the heck is Satan?

Obama currently
Probably soon to be usurped by Hillary .......and it's okay to use the word "hell" when discussing the Prince of Darkness.

Where are you getting your main info about Satan/Lucifer from?

Old Testament?

New Testament?

Someplace else?

It matters where so as to be able to answer your questions about it.

These concepts come originally from Zoroastrianism, Moot.

Those sourcesdon't really contain a whole lot of info about Satan.

Anger, hatred, and pride. . . .
You mean all the attributes of the "righteous," religious right? How interesting. I've always thought they seemed more devilish than righteous.

Philosophical.

Rene Descartes asked about the possibility of an Evil Genius ruling the Universe. Then he dismissed the possibility. I forgot what his rationale was about that. I do remember from college philosophy that we covered Descartes' commentary on the topic, but it was too boring and not worth remembering. I think his ultimate conclusion was, why would an Evil Genius create anything? ... because he could do more harm by doing nothing at all. I don't remember if this is exactly right however. And I don't have any detailed references on Descartes to be able to dig into it at all.

Vengeance? I don't know.

Psychologically speaking (not philosophically) if you feel and act upon vengeance then you have a personality disorder -- either narcissistic and/or borderline personality disorder and/or sociopathic -- one or more of those 3.

Normal adjusted people do NOT hold grudges they forgive and forget.

Then it's terribly clear that as a general rule upon this planet, Satan is doing quite well and God is a total failure.

Putting my Jewish cap on:

Presumably, like all angels, he wants nothing more than to act as a faithful servant of god. He is the blessed accuser and hinderer, his purpose is to place challenges before people on behalf of God so that they might be tested and therefore continue to grow as individuals and as a community. Satan (literally the 'hinderer' in Hebrew) does not have agency, he is an instrument of God who serves the purpose of testing the loyalties and devotions of the Jewish people while simultaneously acting as an incorporeal tool for creating friction and want within ourselves in order that we might overcome our obstacles and grow.

He cannot, and does not, 'capture souls', he does not want your soul, he does not want to 'destroy' god. He is an agent of the divine, and according to some interpretations is merely an extension of the divine itself.

PS: Is it possible this thread would be better suited in the Religious forum?

Thanks Sherman I always wondered what the Jewish (religious) interpretation of Satan was. I know it appears in Job as the tempter of Job.

Vengeance just seems too trite for the universe's worst being.

Please only an idiot forgets, otherwise we would continue to make the same mistakes fully trusting instead of wisely concerned. Forgive... I'll give you that one.

Not all Christians buy into the idea of hell and Satan.

And besides... does it really make sense, that for our, in the grand scheme of things short time on this Earth... no matter what we've done, really deserve an eternity being tormented by some dude and his minions because we made the most allegedly powerful being in the universe "angry".

Because yah know, when you can create infinity itself, apparently you get really, really pissed off sometimes.

And delegate the task of punishing for the infinity that you created, some dude who liked another dude and acted on it..

Remember, god loves all his children right?

Your pseudo-Christian beliefs are a hodgepodge of Protestantism mixed with Aquinas and with Augustine. I would venture that if you actually read the Bible you would not find half of what you believe in there.

I actually find it easier to forget about it than to forgive.

Not forget as to completely let it slip my mind.

But forget in the sense of not thinking about it anymore.

I am still disgusted with people who did bad things in my life from many decades ago and have not forgiven them and never will.

But essentially I no longer dwell on it, so I have "forgotten."

Well you don't know that about Satan/Lucifer though. It all depends on where you get what you believe about it.

Note that under the Jewish view (expressed above by Sherman) that Satan is a tool of God(YHVH).

Not dwelling on and forgetting are two entirely different things in my world. Forgetting is a fool's choice. Not letting something ruin your day(s) is wise man's choice. The two are not the same. I also do not forgive, I just put as much personal distance between me and jerks as possible, in that way I suggest that a level of forgiveness has occurred as I don't harbor intent to go after them.
