Fry tells it like it is.

Re: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

One one hand you reject God's existence, and on the other you attribute Him with powers you claim He uses to our detriment. If God doesn't exist, then there must be another cause for suffering. Which is it?

Life.

Re: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

Sometimes. Haven't you noticed that?

I have. All of survival is a struggle - it always has been and always will be. People of good will try to mitigate that, but we'll never eliminate it. It is a condition of life.

Re: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

Any time I see something that is labeled "tells it like it is" I instantly know that what the person really means is "says things I totally agree with".

So not caused by any capricious and evil god.

I didn't say that. That's your conclusion, and it's a leap. One you are free to make, but a leap none the less.

A leap? Believing in the existence of a god despite the total lack of evidence is a far greater leap.

Your leap was characterizing God as evil and capricious because you have no evidence that is the case at all.

Could you address some of the points in the video please? Is that burrowing worm not evidence?

Evidence that we have things in this world that can maim and kill us? Yes.

A bit unrelated question, but do you consider Mass Murder 'evil' ?

How about Christianity's own Bible, specifically Genesis 6:11-17 and 7:11-24. An omnipotent God who did not like the results of his own creation decided to place the future of humanity in the hands of a 600 year old man, his family, and core examples of all animal life. Then turns around and kills every other living thing on the face of the Earth. Making him the greatest mass murderer of all human history beating out the worst human offenders by far. How is that not evil and capricious?

And the irony is the reasoning for God's mass murder of just about everyone was "The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence." Take a good look throughout history and that behavior is still around with very few pauses...

I don't understand how a person who professes no belief in God can characterize God while certain in the knowledge He doesn't exist. How, exactly, does that work?

Re: Fry is a fool.

Psalms 53:1: “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.”

the rest of that:

1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

So I am a morally revulsive person engaging in grossly unfair behavior who does no good and is corrupt if I don't believe in THAT particular god?

**** that god, I do a hell of a lot more for people than most of his flock.

Imagination.

You can try to evade all you would like, but the answer to your own question is in the very book Christians hold in the highest regard. The rest is the observation you foolishly dismiss, but those like Fry ask with good reason.

No sweat.
It's the Law Of Vanishing Precedent Ad Argumentum.
First you deny the existence of something and then you're free to make up **** about what you just said doesn't exist.
Like the AGW (Adjusted Global Warming) debate.
First you declare the debate to be over thus giving yourself permission to never ever give even a cursory glance at anything that says differently.
Saves a lot of time.

So you can't explain that disconnect, I take it. The understanding of that book eludes you because it's message is spiritual - not physical or material.

I marvel at how so many people that dont believe in a God and believe themselves to be 'free' and at peace spend so much of their time wrapped up in a bitter, hate filled and angry zeal to try to diminish other peoples beliefs. I also marvel at the infantile views so many people have of who and what God is and how readily they create their arguments and viewpoints in concert with their own personal belief system.

But thats just me.

So why did god create that worm? Wasn't he feeling spiritual on that workday?

It is just you. I don't know any bitter and hate filled atheists and I haven't spotted any here. Care to mention some names?

You've noticed that the physical world is not perfect? Who claims that it is?
