Your choice. Explanation's a plus.

I don't think that the events described in the Book of Revelations are understood. There are many who believe that they refer to Rome and its fate, for example.

The Christians of that day were convinced that the 2nd Coming would happen in their lifetimes. Obviously that was not correct. There has been no improvement in our understanding in that area since then.

Yes, but it's not a baby being born, not graduating, and not landing in a plane, it's me and everyone I know being brutally murdered then subsequently tortured for eternity while christians celebrate it happening. That's sick.

No, that no why they're celebrating. In fact, I agree its a stretch but there might even be a grieving period as those who are lost are mourned loosely based on one passage. Nevertheless, graduation parties do not celebrate the high school dropouts and this the celebration is in no way connected to those who will be lost.

Yes eventually our sun will burn out and thats all folks.

I think the human species will wipe itself out. I think we have waited too long to mitigate Global Warming. Mother Earth has had enough of our arrogance and will toss us off like an irritating parasite.

Other then to make a mockery of someone's beliefs what exactly is your point with this thread?? For someone that hates and fears Christianity you sure are hung up on it. Your game is played out and sooo tired, let it go its controlling you at this point. Or better yet... grow up.

All things end. This thread will end, and it will have proved nothing of value other than some vague satisfaction temporarily given for less than noble purpose.

Okay, that's a little over the top, but then, so is this thread.

What I believe is that up until right now no one has left this planet alive.
If anyone has any reliable proof that Jesus Christ did that, let's see it.
I will wait. :roll:The clock is ticking.

It seems anytime there is trouble in the Middle East, especially if it involves Israel, I hear (read) reports mentioning "end time". The interesting part though is how some Christian eschatological sects like CBN or Pat Robertson's group, ramp up for for donations under the end time banner, in support of Israel.

Now this is just conjecture on my part but I don't think the global warming issue fits the Christian eschatology narrative. End Time, according to their beliefs, always involves war and the Middle East.

From my understanding, there are a lot of different interpretations of the apocalypse , one of the most prominent being dispensationalism and premillennialism. What makes it interesting is how it plays into American politics,

Indeed, the Book of Revelations is a kind of Rorschach onto which people project all sorts of ideas and ideologies. For example, saying someone is the 'Antichrist' just signals intense dislike for that person, who is usually prominent and powerful. The term has been applied to everyone from the Pope to the current American president.

I have proof, but you won't think it's reliable. In fact, it will literally require an act of God for you to believe it. ;)

You don't have any proof, none exists.

And you're wasting your time and mine talking about that which doesn't exist.

It is very frightening to me when people in positions of power make decisions in anticipation of a climactic, religious apocalypse. Some American support for Israel stems from hoping that it will fulfill the story of Revelations and bring about the end of the world. Some elements of the war on terror have attempted to promote a world-ending religious war between Christians and Muslims. It may become a self-fulfilling prophecy. That's terrifying, that people are actually taking steps to annihilate the human race because of myths.

That's the same thing that the 9/11 conspiracy theorists say, the people who believe in alien abductions, etc. You're all crazy. You've got nothing and you know you've got nothing, that's why you can't actually present anything, you just pretend that you can.

Come on, we're all on to you.

I actually don't know of anybody--in power or otherwise--who is making decisions in anticipation of some terrible religious apocalypse? Who are these people?

And why would any sane practicing Christian even worry about this anyway?

In every age, every prediction has been wrong. I expect every prediction made today and forward to also be wrong as well as to encourage both sectarianism and ignorant bigotry.

A lot of people sincerely believe that proof does exist.

Convincing you of the truth is above my pay grade. I can assure you that I believe what I believe.

Oh, I know you believe it, the question is whether you ought to believe it. People believe all manner of screwy things after all.

well I guess the atmosphere will be striped away after the planets insides are no longer molten or maybe the sun will expand 1st

and I guess the whole universe might run out of steam

or we might kill are selves or some other disaster might kill us all

so some kind of end of the world is going to happen sooner rot later

would be nice if we were all ok after words some how but no reason to believe that will be the case

Some people believe that men used to ride around on dinosaurs.

Different strokes for different folks.

Yes, some people believe that CO2 produced by man will result in catastrophic global warming.

If someone came up with a computer model that proved the existence of God do you think secular people would start believing in God, or would they question the design and assumptions used in the model? And yet they swallow climate models whole.

And then there's the whole thing about GMOs.

And vaccines.

Secular people are often as irrational as they accuse believers of being.

Naysayer you are think I.
