I just watched this documentary and I must say it was pretty interesting (and of course disgusting).

The Koch brothers have done everything from paying politicians to even trying to re-segregate schools.

My question is, whether a politician or a regular person is democrat or Republican, do you believe that people believe things because they truly believe in it or do they believe in things because of other influences like money, brainwashing (Koch brothers targeted schools), or other potential benefits.

The most important question I wish to ask is... If you were to be presented with 45,000 dollars or more (upwards of a million or even more) would you stand up to Congress and completely deny your beliefs (who knows maybe some of these people truly believe in what they preach, but for the sake of the question assume that they don't and neither do you)?

I'm a very VERY nationalistic person, I don't think I would given the chance, and I put faith in me, but it is scary even for myself. If I was ever presented the situation I hope I wouldn't...

No one's incorruptible. That I know beyond all doubt. A belief system is no more substantial than whatever ideals, biases and personal trauma it's woven of.

I'm more than flexible; however, I'd want a whole lot more than money.

Cocaine bros have offered yacht trips, exclusive vacations, etc. to get congress to repeal things like Environmental laws.

Foreign governments have offered them a lot more than any criminal syndicate ever could. lulz

They being citizens, have every right to do so.

I could easily believe it, those two don't strike me as anyone willing to practice ethics at all.

I don't trust documentaries anymore. Everyone I have seen is just an exercise in confirmation bias. Start with a conclusion and then find or invent facts to support that bias.

I don't like that answer, please tell me what you think of them.

I do not pay them much mind.

What is it you do not understand about that?

Excon get out of the thread since you aren't adding any substance to it please.

Wrong.
You made comment of them attempting to get environmental laws appealed.
I pointed out that as citizens have every right to do so.

Then you later asked me a question which I honestly answered.

Now you may not have liked what I said, but it is still contributing substance.

Nobody has the right to bribe congress.

Nobody has the right to bribe congress.

supreme court says otherwise
money = free speech and all that
campaign contributions = legal bribes

but we have the best government money can buy

the koch boys did not just inherit wealth. they also continue the heritage of their father's negative political views. he was a senior player in the john birch society. a piece of the puzzle that helps better explain why they do what they do

From Wiki:

Reception
Rolling Stone called the Koch Brothers Exposed “scrappy and low-budget, but effective all the same.” On the website Topdocumentaryfilms.com, it earned 7.86 stars out of 10 from 96 viewers. Progressive media embraced it eagerly, saying it is “a muckraking tour de force that takes no prisoners,” and “an illuminating and very timely film- and it rocks.”

Koch Industry response
The Kochs take issue with the film's portrayal of their activities. On Kochfacts.com, their website launched to counter critical media allegations, they call Robert Greenwald “maliciously false and misleading.” Even before the release of the film, they stated, “we are certain his video about Koch will contain outright lies, distortions of our true record, and misstatements of fact.“ Later, they issued a statement addressing four of the film’s claims and said the film is ”a desperate attempt by an obscure video maker to make money off of the orchestrated partisan political attacks against Koch.”

I probably disagree with the Koch brothers on many issues, but if I were a politician I would probably let myself be bought... it just seems very tempting and a easy way to make a boatload of money, and get out. Depending politics doesn't have to cost the player much. You would mostly just be required to pay lip service to the Koch brothers and write/support legislation that had no chance in hell of passing. That is how DC works anymore... loll

From the sounds of it, the Koch brothers are probably pushing the GOP to the far right...

That should be illegal... What was the name of the documentary you watched?

That is true, and you one can be selective with facts... but information is information, and facts are facts. It's our job to look for all the facts and information, and get the whole story.

The Koch's allegedly bribed congress to bend the environmental laws to their favor. You said, " they being citizens, have every right to do so." Then I said, "nobody has the right to bribe congress". Then you went dumb. lol

Bribing public officials is illegal.....

18 U.S. Code § 201 - Bribery of public officials and witnesses | LII / Legal Information Institute

What was presented was this.
Cocaine bros have offered yacht trips, exclusive vacations, etc. to get congress to repeal things like Environmental laws.
That is nothing more than an allegation and does not say bribe anywhere.
Even if true, it does not indicate under what circumstances those things were offered. Which would determine if it were a bribe or not.

And my comment to it addresses the legal-ness of what they are allowed to do, as they are allowed to petition any member of the legislatures.

Secondly there is no evidence of any bribe, let alone charges.
So you thinking I went dumb when it is you who has not shown any wrongdoing on their part, is really you speaking to your own comments.

So again. Who was bribed?
If someone was bribed I am sure you can point it out, right?
I am sure you can show where charges were filed, right?

What was that? You can't? And you want to say I went dumb, when it is you making an unsupportable claim of a bribe? Wow! :doh :lamo
