Why Jesus Would Have Hated Most Modern Day Religion

No what he wrote is trash (including the language)

Authority of the Old Testament :: Cru
Oh. You disagree with Frank Schaeffer. Of that, I'm not surprised. He's been pointing out the non-Christian ideals of those claiming to be Christians for a couple decades now.

BTW, you're link leads to a pipe dream.

Here's a reality check.

ARCHEOLOGISTs AGREE: MOSES NEVER EXISTED--See the Proof - Topix

The Torah is obvious mythology. The fact that it is fiction is obvious from Book 1, Page 1. The Earth is not 4000 years old. Cultures (unknown to the scribes) flourished much before. Written records and archeological evidence using carbon dating show man's presence tens of thousands of years ago, probably over a 100,000 years ago. A million people cannot live in a vast desert (without water or food) in a hostile nation for 40 years--and leave no trace.

The techniques of higher criticism showed that the Old Testament was weaved together out of four source documents and was produced much later than claimed.

See "The Forgery of the Old Testament" by Joseph McCabe:

http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/jo...

Also see: "The age of Reason", Thomas Paine, in which Paine labels the OT as "spurious."

Furthermore, archaelogical and historical evidence has proven Moses, Exodus, Abraham, Joshua, King David, etc. to be basically myths copied from African and Eastern/Middle Eastern cultures.

For eg., according to Prof. Ze'ev Herzog who teaches in the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Tel Aviv University, in "Deconstructing the Walls of Jericho", states as follows:

There are no doubt many people that call themselves Christians that are anything but. I run into them constantly. "Ye shall know them by their fruit"

But....NO Christian reads the Torah, it's blasphemy.

God did not write the Torah, he only wrote the Bible(s)....ask anyone.

Well except a Jew, Hindu, Muslim, Mormon, Jehovah, Buddhist....etc.....those guys are all liars and sinners who will burn in the fires of hell.

This is so laughable. The Old Testament, it's first 5 books are the Torah.

Oh man so many biblical experts that know absolutely nothing.

Could you actually be so extremely dense as to not understand sarcasm when it is before you?

~OR~ do you simply jerk your knees every time someone makes a comment that might place your Imagined deity in a light you find less than bright?

Of course, because people often know sarcasm on the internet when it is just a written word with no voice inflection etc.

Nice ad hominems though.

If you already assume Christianity is hokum why do you bother trying to debate it?

You credibility and your inane questioning have given you away.

1. Because it hasn't gone away yet?

2. The verifiable false statements in the Bible and their conflict with supposed "Christian Teachings" have given away far more.

hey everyone, calamity hates christianity but continues to post threads that ask questions about christianity.

Please ignore from now on.

Though technically a religious discussion, I suspect the rules in there would result in me receiving an infraction just for posting this. Nonetheless, assuming there really was a Jesus (I know, but suspend disbelief for just a second), I totally believe what Mr Schaeffer says here. How about you?

Jesus certainly was no bible thumper. Hence, bible thumpers are not really Christians. Right?

I tend not to pontificate about European politics much, since I am well aware I know little about it.

It would be nice if others would restrain their pontifications about subjects they clearly know nothing about... but I'm sure that is far too optimistic to hope for.

I don't much care for Islam, Judaism, Buddism and a host of other fairy tale myths which pass for reality in far too many people's lives either.

I believe the author of the article linked in the op is more than qualified to speak of it.

In 2007 Schaeffer published his autobiography, Crazy for God: How I Grew Up As One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back, in which he goes into much more detail regarding what it was like to grow up in the Schaeffer family and around L'Abri. In 2011, he published another memoir, called Sex, Mom, and God, in which he discusses growing up with his parents and their role in the rise of the American religious right and argues that the root of the "insanity and corruption" of this force in U.S. politics, and specifically of the religious right's position on abortion, is a fear of female sexuality.

I was referring primarily to your own comments. You don't seem to even understand the distinction between OT and NT, between Law and Grace, so correcting your misunderstandings would be a epic task.

So basically you're just flaming people who are religious?

Why not just apply your hate elsewhere?

Sermon on the mount, he read from the book of Isiah.

I may be misunderstanding, but I am under the impression that the old testament, in the form that we currently recognize it, didn't exist back then either. there were only unorganized random stories which differed from area to area in verbage and meaning and there was little attempt to standardize it until at least 900 AD.

its very likely that Jesus never had access to the same bible versions or even verses that we do today.

The Torah existed and was read aloud at the time of Jesus and had been for about 400 years. There is no indication it was radically different than the books we have today. In fact we have commentary on it from before the time of Jesus. The latest date on the canonization was the 2nd century but most scholars believe it was canonized much earlier.

If nothing else the Dead Sea Scrolls prove much of the Bible was in written form at the time.

I can't disagree with that. There are simply too many curves in the road to navigate.

If you don't know the roadmap, criticizing those to take this turn instead of that turn is rather disingenuous...

What I criticize is people turning Right while saying they turned Left. Now it could be that this path of Christ is both Left and Right--if He truly existed, I'm sure this it would be---but then I suspect He's not going to be too pleased with those who insist the road only veers Right.

Jesus also said to just go out and feed the poor. He didn't say to whine about government and declare that it must be voluntary. He just said to go do it. Modern religions bear little resemblance to their ancient origins. Unfortunately, a little is still too much.

I always find it odd, that those who deny Jesus, and know nothing about being a Christian, become emotional, and talk of sin and the bible and its stance against it.

if you don't believe in Jesus, and the word he brought to the world why worry, why moan and complain, just live your life, and be happy in the idea you were smarter then everyone else, and did not believe in a made-up 2000 year old dead jew

IMO, if Jesus exists up in heaven, he would probably condemn most Christians to hell.

Absolute nonsense.

Jesus regularly quoted scripture, so he doesn't fit your bill of what he would be.

I don't think Jesus would condone sending the parents of a recent gunshot victim a letter stating you have a right to own guns. That kind of thing.

Debating is fun?

he would hate when he sees how "god" is used to justify wild capitalism
