The reason for the mockery of Christians in the political atmosphere.

lol, nit talking about the dark ages.

Whoa... So in your world view the only time in human history the religious have tried to force their religious beliefs on others. Every society, every culture, every religion has done it. It happened 10,000 years ago, and it happens today.

I saw a post by a member that was complaining about how there is a double standard when it comes to mocking Christians. I notice this too. It's okay to take pot shots at Christianity and people don't think anything of it. Some even do so at religion in general but never specifically Judaism or Islam.

So I got to thinking why that is. I thought about what is different between Islamic people and Christians in the Unitedstates. I have heard the theory that out somebody mocks Islam it sends the Islamic world into rage fits. I simply don't buy that, plus it gives Christians the incentive to me militant.

It dawned on me. Christians in the right wing have turned their religion into a political party. They defend teaching creation in schools because of their religion, politicians onboth sides reference God over and over while delivering speeches. Faith isn't supposed to be a rule it's supposed to be a personal endeavor.

Thoughts?

Likely we see Christianity focused on due to a pushback. Thus far Islam does not attempt to influence public policy en mass and is generally ignored for the most part, whereas Christianity tries to bleed into law and culture in insidious ways that creep into society. The silly Sharia law stuff is little more than fabrication out of hatred and fear.....the Christian stuff is real and seen daily.

Yup, that's a big part of it. There simply is no other religion in the US in which significant numbers try to impose themselves over the rest of the population by enshrining their beliefs in law. They open themselves up to it.

But it's also just generally the amount of Christian hypocrisy we see in the US. They make it really easy when, just for one example, they say their religion is about loving thy neighbor, but the religious right tends to discriminate against nearly everyone.

I think both of these things are just a function of them being a majority -- any religion will do the same crap if they are in power (if not officially, then through social majority). We see it the world over.

America just has more free speech than any other nation that has these kinds of problems to the same extent, so the criticism is more socially visible. Good thing, too. The alternative seems to be mutiny.

I just can't honestly believe we're still struggling with whether we should be a theocracy, which is essentially what all this is over. Most of the rest of the developed world has moved on.

Liberals worship science, materialism and big government...least my faith has an end-goal past this current existence.

What? Stop trying to detail my thread.

yeah, I said it stopped being a religion and became a political party

Lol, nobody worships science, what a foolish thing to say.

Seems the only goal of your religion is too make a pest of itself. Worthless WCHism

For one who claims to be 'saved' you sure have a lot of misconceptions about Christians and their politics.

No, not Christians, just demigods that worship themselves and proclaim to be Christian. Christ said himself son of man is saved. Read your bible once in a while.

Mocking serves no purpose. One's own words and ideas reveal idiotic thinking.

I'm not sure what your second sentence means but I think mockery is a powerful way of illuminating a silly idea as silly.

What? Stop trying to detail my thread.

I'm not derailing your thread, I'm explaining to you why christians receive more mockery than other religions, and it's because you guys won't stop trying to shove it down our throats.

Don't ask for answers if you don't want the truth.

You people need to go back and read your history books. Christianity was the dominate religion of the early immigrant Americans. Christianity went unchallenged until the political left attempted to destroy it thus turning it in to a political element. Go back to the cultural revolution starting in the 60's with "free love" ( open sex), living together as unmarried couples, drugs, changing views on homosexuality, patriotism, all these were front page issues like gay marriage today. The right simply fought back defending what had been the morays and norms of the country. Changed was then rammed down the throats of this country when the media joined in. Don't forget the media grew to despise the government after the McCarthy era when it attacked the media and Hollywood as being full of communists. So call off your dogs you lefties as your little party has just as many scoundrels as any party in the political world.

No you were blabbering on about ancient history. I was speaking of modern politics. I don't believe I ever tried to cram anything down your throat. In fact, I recognize the error of Christians when it comes to just that sort of thing. You ought not fuss at people that agree with you.

Don't ask for answers if you don't want the truth.
I asked for your thoughts on the op in regards to modern culture, not an armature history lesson.

Look dude, I think that religion should be excised from the secular government. Why are you arguing with somebody that agrees with you? Is it because I am not atheist?

The left, and really the right, see my signature, aren't trying to destroy anything but a political opponent. Get your damned religion back in your church and out of a political party and other parties won't attack it. That is a recent creation.

Go back to the cultural revolution starting in the 60's with "free love" ( open sex), living together as unmarried couples, drugs, changing views on homosexuality, patriotism, all these were front page issues like gay marriage today.
Yeah yeah I have heard that whole "the world is going to hell in a handbasket" cliche is about worthless
The right simply fought back defending what had been the morays and norms of the country.
No, they are pushing to keep antiquated morality relevant.
Changed was then rammed down the throats of this country when the media joined in. Don't forget the media grew to despise the government after the McCarthy era when it attacked the media and Hollywood as being full of communists.
Lol, communists never had a prayer here.

So call off your dogs you lefties as your little party has just as many scoundrels as any party in the political world.
The people that bring up left and right and parties they wish to be affiliated with are pawns.

I can think for myself,

Pregnant Sudanese woman sentenced to death for apostasy

A Sudanese immigrant living in New Hampshire has returned to Sudan to try to save his wife, who is eight months pregnant and facing the death penalty there for marrying a Christian.

Daniel Wani is a Sudanese man with U.S. citizenship who has been living in Manchester, N.H.

His wife, Meriam Yehya Ibrahim Ishag, became the focus of worldwide news reports last week after the Sudanese government sentenced her to death. She is eight months pregnant.

The Islamic court considered Ishag a Muslim and did not recognize her marriage to Wani, a Christian. That constituted a crime of adultery and she was sentenced to receive 100 lashes.

The court also found her guilty of apostasy by converting to Christianity and sentencing her to be hanged.

The flogging and the death penalty were to be delayed until after she gave birth.

Ishag is considered Muslim by Sudan's courts because her father was Muslim, though she raised by her Christian mother.

Wani and his brother, Gabriel Wani, grew up in Sudan but moved to New Hampshire. Gabriel told ABC News affiliate WMUR that Daniel has returned to Sudan to try and save his wife's life.

“I’m just praying for God. He can do a miracle,” he said. “Everyone is depressed. You don’t believe it. It’s shock.”

“You cannot believe that’s going to happen,” Gabriel said. “It’s a good family, a happy family.”

Neither Gabriel nor Daniel could be reached for comment today by ABC News.

The U.S. condemned Sudan's court ruling last week, with both the State Department and the White House calling on Sudan to uphold its human rights commitments.

U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, who represents New Hampshire, has asked Secretary of State John Kerry to grant Ishag political asylum.

The Sudan Tribune reported over the weekend that the country's parliament speaker, al-Fatih Izz Al-Din, downplayed the death sentence and said it was only preliminary and could be appealed in the future.

This is typical in the world so stop banging on the right in America for defending Christian belief.

.

Actually....it is far from typical and has absolutely nothing to do with the intent of your own thread, unless you are trying to create an example or "Why" many Christians are mocked.

nope. I don't like them perverting the religion to prop up their political party. It's blasphemous and disrespectful.

Any Christian would put their religion above some ridiculous political party.

There is certainly no end to the hypocrisy arising from those who bash Christianity on one hand, but defend Islam (usually Islamism) on the other, but the reason for this lies more in a projected psychology of self-loathing than anything else. Christianity is associated with US, while Islam is associated with THEM, and they are so reflexively anti-us because of their own sense of self-loathing,which is projected to include their entire culture. It is invariably the less intelligent portion of the left that engages in this, but they are so busy finger pointing at their own that they end up acting as useful idiots for those who oppose us most strenuously. They don't really stand for anything, merely against, and they allow their disgruntlement with life to extend to anything and everything within easy reach.

I personally point the finger at people that perverted Christianity into a political party.

I’m guessing that when you say that Islam doesn’t attempt to influence public policy that you mean to qualify with “in the United States” and that you’re further excluding attacks by foreigners on American soil—that you mean those of the Muslim faith here in the U.S. You surely don’t think that Sharia law is silly; you mean that bigots are lying because they hate and fear and that there is no reason for any concern—right?

Sad to read that “Christianity tried to bleed into law and culture in insidious ways….” Here is an article that argues that Judeo-Christian values were foundational at our nation’s beginning: Articles: The Judeo-Christian Values of America

But what I’d really like to know is where all these pushy Christians are who are trying to cram their religions down your throat? I have an ordinary job and shop in ordinary stores, and except for extraordinary “The end is near” characters you may chance upon every so often on the street, this doesn’t happen to me. Just the occasional Jehovah’s Witnesses at the door every ten years or so. And so? I just don’t experience anybody even talking about religion in the workplace or the grocery store.

So are you talking about family members who are slinging Scripture or obnoxious neighbors or who? Where is this taking place? Are you being continually “witnessed” to or what?

I personally point the finger at people that perverted Christianity into a political party.

and so do I. Beyond that, I point fingers at those who cherry pick old testament scripture while ignoring Jesus' actual message.

I am rational enough, however, to compare Islam to Christianity in such a way as to note the differences, especially where it comes to the inherent political nature of the two. Jesus was not a political figure, whereas Mohammad was, Jesus did not set out to create a new religion, whereas Mohammad did, and Jesus did not kill for his beliefs, whereas Mohammad murdered people simply for mocking him (look up Abu Afak). The two religions that have sprung forth are very different in function as well, particulary in regards to following these two. Mohammad was a war lord who spread his religion by conquest and subjugation, and his followers continued this practice. Even the most ardent haters of Christianity would be hard pressed to claim that Jesus was a political figure like Mohammad,or that He led armies in assaults against other peoples. His entire message was about spirit rather than law and the people He most railed against were all about law rather than sprit. Islam, on the other hand, is all about Law, comes with its own very restrictive legal system, and so if people really wish to focus on the political nature of the two religions, they should do so fairly and with an understanding as to the basic differences between the two.

I never said you have done anything to anyone, I said christians as a whole have. The only reason I commented in the first place was to correct post #21 where you claimed that the long list of similarities between christians and shariah law muslims started in the McCarthy era. Christianity has been that way since its inception.

I simply don't know enough about Islam to have an opinion of it.
