What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ?

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

It IS fiction.....you see. It is here to stimulate the brain to ask "What if"? Now is it clear to you!?

Thank you for the personal insult but NO it is not clear to me and I doubt any amount of explanation from you is likely to clarify matters.

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

Apparently none of the responders here ever studied philosophy, never questioned "What if" about anything and thinks Walt Disney figures are all real. When you read a fiction novel it is called "fiction" because it never really happened. They are not real!!!!! When you are watching a movie about any person, those are not real, they are on the screen, they are not really breathing. You cannot reach out and grab them. If I asked "what is life like on the moon" you would have to fantasize because most of you have never been there. Di you ever play house when you were a little kid? That was not real either!!

The ability to wrap your mind around an hypothetical as presented is a mark of higher brain function.

And fantasy fits in where with that.

Please, this is not philosophy.

And when people ask what would have happened if Hitler hadn't drawn Russia into WWII, that is every bit as much 'fantasy'. So what? It is still interesting to consider, and it is a good exercise in analysis of the drivers of the flow of political history. Just as the question presented in the OP is a good exercise in the analysis of the underpinnings of Christian belief, and how a shift in those underpinnings might affect religion.

You either aren't able to grasp hypotheticals or you are threatened by this one and are displaying intellectual cowardice. It is one or the other.

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

How could we possibly discover the remains of Christ?

Since there's no reason to think that "Christ" ever existed in the first place, I agree.

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

As a general rule, I think we oughtn't to cover up evidence we find about the past. But I would echo everyone else's sentiment that identifying remains as specifically belonging to one Jewish preacher who was crucified at that period of time (because there were a bunch of them) would be virtually impossible. Nor would it really prove anything about anyone's myths. But we oughtn't to shy away from anything we discover about history, no matter what it is.

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

Ummmmmmmmmmm, how would they know?

DNA testing, of course! Half human - Half alien.

Christ IS, and He is alive. Ergo, no remains, hypothetically or otherwise.

My, you have an overactive imagination, don't you? Why don't you prove any of those things you said with objective evidence?

Nah, I know you can't. Religion is for suckers.

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

Recommend a course of action it this ever happens. Broadcast it to the world, shut it up and never tell, put the remains on display for all the world to see?

If it were real? Measurably real? BBC Documentary!

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

For Heavens sake...one begins to see why no further communication was issued. How difficult it must be for Him to find a suitable conduit amongst all this...

Now, if these remains were presented to you in such a way that you knew beyond doubt they were the remains of Jesus, you would know beyond doubt that this was not random and you would know that "the way" forward would be made clear to you.

It would be difficult to follow and you would walk through fire, but if you are made of the right stuff then you would know you must take that path and do whatever it is that God needs done.

So you'd be willing to accept a potential Salman Rushdie response from the entire Christian world, if you were to somehow be able to "prove" that their mythology is totally incorrect? You are a far braver man than I am. Somehow having a very large percentage of one of the world's largest religious groups pissed off at me doesn't exactly sound like a great social or career move.

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

I would know for certain that I had found the remains of Jesus if I found his skeleton riding the skeleton of a dinosaur:

Who would believe they were the actual remains? Atheists wouldn't believe you; there is no God. Jews wouldn't believe you; Christ hasn't come yet. Christians definitely wouldn't believe you; Christ is not dead. Scientologists wouldn't believe you; there is no money in it. The Manson family wouldn't believe you, Manson is Christ.

The only people who might believe you would be the folks over at the history channel. But then that would be really lame.

I got a nasty note from one of the stupid monitors about connecting dinosaurs to Jesus. I guess one cannot post a question or opinion here if the jerks disagree with it.

You'd find a violent attack by the Christian community acceptable? Any group that leaps to such an irrational position has no business existing in the first place. You're just accepting that Christians can act like children and that's somehow a good thing.

Re: What Actions Should Anyone Take If They Discovered The Skeletal Remains of Christ

Sell the remains to the highest bidder. Move to an island in the South Pacific, if there is still money left over get a nice chalet at a ski resort somewhere.

I am simply acknowledging and accepting that many of the members of ANY religious organization are likely to react unhappily and potentially violently to news that their long-held and heart-felt beliefs are nothing more than fairy tales and mythology. I've at least twice referenced the reactions to Salman Rushdie's work of fiction related to the Islamic faith. We don't need to look any further than the reaction to the anti-muslem comics printed in Europe in the last few years for proof that people of faith tend to react unpleasantly when that faith is questioned or attacked (even if it's only in their mind). We have people in this nation bombing abortion clinics in the name of their faith. Can you truly not see that their reaction to the undermining of their entire faith is likely to be even less pleasant?

Well I was being factitious of course.

Actually, that fact is enough to condemn the entire faith, or at least those who are likely to react violently. Any group who is willing to become violent because their beliefs are proven wrong should be opposed.

Extract DNA for cloning purposes of course. Then subject the clone to extreme interrogation.
