Watched "Brain Games" last night and one topic was lying. It stated infants as young as 6 months lie by acting hungry when all we really want is attention. This got me thinking that some form of lying is just as normal as breathing. Of course we all differ in degree but we all lie and really we probably lie until we die even if they are little white lies. I don't mind lying to a telemarketer or to my doctor when he asks me how often I exercise. They also pointed out some animals lie for example hiding food in one location and putting food in another location top "fool" a predator. So grasp these question, regardless of how man came to be on this planet why is lying a part of life. Where did it come from? We love and hate and we lie. Did God install that in us or did evolution attach it to us (do fish lie?)?

Lying is an interesting topic. Obviously it makes reduces the reliability of information and increases the costs of using it. On the other hand, a lie in time saves your life or makes you rich.

Game theory and evolution can predict that "lying" is some part of almost any animals behavior. All it takes is thinking about the advantages one liar has in a population of truth-tellers and you'll see why.

And how do we differentiate between different behaviours that a very similar? One baby's 'acting hungry' could be anothers 'i am hungry'.
Just seem to be reading more into something than it really there.

Honesty is the behaviour that's learnt. Children are inherently selfish creatures, they will deceive to fulfill their desires unless taught not to.

Also why deception will never be completely purged from society. In my experience, the human psyche tends to be based more around recognizing and learning from lies than truth, both because we learn from lies because they hurt us at some point and we use and are surrounded by falsehoods from the start of our lives. If we were live all of our lives in a place without deception, we would just grow vulnerable to it, and be taken advantage of by those not raised in such an environment. There is no winning without lies, although, without truth, lies would become truth because we would simply be talking in reverse terms bizzaro style.

But don't misunderstand my meaning, I would rather there be less lying in society, just not the complete absence of it. I have my own secrets, and I would like to keep them.

Lying is polished in to becoming an artistic talent in many cases like a Bernie Madoff for example. Lying becomes what and who they are. Swindlers, hustlers, con artists, thieves, cheaters and oh yes, let us not forget our favorite liars.......politicians.

Are infants really liars, or are they simply limited to whatever their experiential range permits? Maybe its just me, but I don't generally credit 6 month old children with the sophistication for duplicity.

People are 'born liars'. People are 'born to lead'. People are 'born greedy'. Good old biological determinism. Those Africans really were sub-human, ya know. Yep.

Conservatard BS.
