This is primarily directed at atheists and agnostics, but religious people are welcome. Do you believe in karma, or something like it? I don't think there is any force out there, like karma, that seeks to right wrongs. I believe that **** happens. So what about you all?

I do not believe in poetic justice of any sort, religious or otherwise. Too many really horrible people fair way too well and too many absolute sweethearts struggle to survive.

I agree for the most part. Except, I do think poetic justice can happen. Someone who goes around screwing people over is bound screw over the wrong person.

I don't believe karma is a force at all, but a perfectly natural outcome to balance the actions of an individual. It doesn't "seek" anything. It just happens. ;)

I think this is true to an extent. Sometimes stepping on people to get ahead can work out great for people.

If karma is something that really happens, it really doesn't work out in the long run. That's the point of it. It's a tool for teaching one how to live correctly. It's not something that one would typically see in one lifetime.

I don't think I completely understand what you're saying. Could you elaborate?

Karma isn't a God, nor something with power or purpose. Karma is the law of cause and effect. It states that for every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction. It's the idea that for positive and negative actions, there will be an result which balances that action. I hope that makes sense. It's not something that is magical nor mystical, just a concept of balancing the scales.

The Taoists say, "If you can wait by the bank of the river long enough, one day you will see the body of your enemy float by."

Then the Bible says "Marvel not that the wicked prosper..." since it is a fallen world with much evil in it.

Yet, I been around a while... and I've seen poetic justice strike again and again, as those who had things their own way for a long time finally got what was coming to them, and got it in a way that was all too appropriate to be mere chance.

Thanks, I gotcha. :) I agree with that for the most part. I bet there's exceptions though. There's smart people out there who have royally f'ed over people, and probably will never pay the price for it.

Well, that is one of the sticking points with the idea of karma. Those who seriously believe it happens, typically believe in reincarnation as well.

It's rare in my life, but I've seen it. I've also seen people get away with some f'ed up stuff, but they might eventually get theirs.

Maybe one of the roaches I've killed was a reincarnated Hitler.

What do you think Hitler would've been reincarnated as?

Likely someone with a horrific life- over and over again. We're talking hundreds and thousands of lifetimes here, not just a couple of hundred years. It's a huge concept, and takes years to really get even a little bit of a grasp on. If you are interested from a more scientific perspective, I would recommend "Many Lives, Many Masters" by Brian(?) Weiss. He is a psychiatrist who had some interesting experiences when he was doing therapy with a young client some years ago.

That sounds worse than being an insect. That doesn't make sense to me though. If the person doesn't know anything about their past life then they aren't really the same person. Besides having the same soul? In fact, their next life could result in a great person so then karma's punishing someone who doesn't deserve it. Not sure if any of that makes sense.

Nope. I don't believe in supernatural karma. There's no reason to believe in such a thing.

As far as I go is "kindness begets kindness." Your reputation is important in life. People will be nice to a respectable person, and be rude to a jerk.

No, is isn't the same person. It's the same soul. We tend to think of the human as the person, but the human body is just a vehicle. The soul is what actually knows. This life is temporary and clouded by human emotions and thought. When I see a person, and get to know a person, I don't see them as purely a physical body, as much as I see them as a soul who just happens to be in a particular physical form at this time. I tend to identify with them at a level which is beyond physical, and look beyond their outward appearance. I realize this is probably abnormal along the lines of human relationships, but it's how I've been since I was a child.

Would the new person Hitlers soul gets put into have the same, or a similar personality?

Hard to say for sure. I figure there would be some similarities. I should probably also mention that I don't believe a soul "gets put into" a random body, but that the soul in question chooses the circumstances it needs, in order to learn the things that are needed for progressing.

That's what a friend of mine who's a Rosicrucian says.

No. **** does happen but it wasnt karma it was a figure of speech for reality.
