Why is killing such a big deal?

It is a big deal because of the finality of it. It is against the idea of working toward a solution requiring thinking and give and take. It is unnatural unless the level of emotion is considered to render the killer "mad". Making a decision to do anything that is irreversible always requires more thought and the consequences are potentially more severe.

How did it come to this?
People got bored with the same old ****, and you can only convince yourself your partner's still hot for so long before you need a distraction. Same thing with booze, where the discomfort of hangovers gets to outweigh the ephemeral pleasure of oblivion.

At least there's TV. Yay.

Howdy,

OK, so why is killing such a big deal?

Because every time somebody is killed a whole universe of thoughts, feelings, choices and potentials is disappearing from existence.

Needs to be explained?

I don't know, maybe it is not a "big deal" either if tomorrow this whole Cosmos will wink out for good - easy come, easy go?

OK, so let's imagine someone invaded your house and you shot him dead. Why should it be a big deal? :)

.

Where I live, it isn't.

Next town over, buddy of mine filmed an altercation. A man was stealing gas from a car parked in front of a house. Owner came out with 45 in hand; confrontation was loud and long enough for neighbors to come out on their porches. Thief was an idiot, instead of running away he tried to act hard and advanced on armed homeowner with a screwdriver in hand. Homeowner shot him once, center chest. Guy fell down, kicked a bit, died.

Cops, ambulance came. Guy was DRT (dead right there). Cops asked the homeowner a few questions, asked neighbors a few questions... then returned the homeowner's gun and left.

No charges.

As it should be.
