It is the distant furture and you and your team of brilliant scientists have created a small planet in a labratory. After many years of observation you witness human life beginning on this planet. You are elated but later you see them behaving just like us, murdering and raping, waging war, etc.
Question: What do you do?

Publish a paper and win the nobel prize. You just created a planet with life!

Lysol the lab because the place is cross-contaminating experiments

Present myself as "the creator", flood the place except for a few, and teach the new generations to do what I tell them, or else. Begging demanding that they harvest their planets resources of precious minerals, as offerings to me.

No, that's been tried, and the result was that humans continued to slaughter each other for thousands of years, then developed even more efficient ways of killing.

Maybe a tweak in the DNA would make homo sapiens live up to the name that they've given themselves.

I like KevinKohler's approach. I'd cryptically message only a select few of them, then get butthurt when they don't all listen to me. I'd then punish everyone just because I'd like to see them suffer.

Nah, I'm OK with the slaughtering, as long as they do it in my name, and in my honor...and as long as they make with the offerings.

This kennel is chock full of sick puppies. You guys see too many Twighlight Zones.

I know what I'd do if I was alone...

I would select a certain society to be my favorite. The rest I'd damn to hell on earth while I would take good care of that certain and single society. I would call them Lews.

I would announce myself to the entire planet frequently so that every being upon it has solid proof of my existence. My commands about how live your life would be written in the native language of every culture in as clear a manner as they could understand. I would also provide a FAQ for my commandments and update it in response to my followers asking for clarification. When jackasses inevitably tried to use my name to accrue power for themselves, I would smite them in a very public manner.

introduce them to Buddhism.

in all seriousness, though, what could you do except to wait for them to evolve further from their primate and tribal roots? this stuff is both genetic and cultural. my hope for mankind is that we don't destroy ourselves before this transition has a chance to take place.

we can work together and achieve amazing things, or we can draw imaginary lines and kill the people on the other side. the choice is ours.

I'd pay myself on the back for a job well done and have a beer.

Nothing. I'd probably seek to ensure the lab had perpetual funding so that the planet wouldn't be unplugged or anything. But other than that, nothing.

I'd decide to talk to an illiterate group of goat-herders in the desert, probably kill a bunch of people, promote slavery, misogyny, racism and murder / genocide. Then, quite a few years later, say scratch that but here's me, I mean my son, who's me ... but human. I'd die - err, I mean he'd die, so everyone should worship me. Let's not forget, I'd have given them free will but, if they didn't do what I wanted and worshipped me, they'd be damned to suffer forever. I mean, at least there'd be evidence of me, right?

Nah, but in all seriousness, I'd probably worry about the effect on the tides with another massive body this close to Earth.

See, now... this thread is exactly why the Religion forum was separated from the Philosophical forum. Congratulations, you're all the reason we can't have nice things.

I let them do what they do, until they improve. Eventually, we figure out how to effectively survive and improve the species.

Tablets, you're going to need tablets. They are very heavy. Don't just have one guy come for them.

I just read the first 5 books about a year ago. Did you see there is an audiobook version on Amazon for book 1?

The first 5 and the last 2 were Chalker's best work. There were 3 in-between that were awful. I also like the 4 Lords Of The Diamond quadrology. But I'm a Markovian at heart and I view humans as a failed experiment.

Yeah I liked that book too Nathan Brazil is one of my favotite Characters ever.

Not interested in audio books. Yeah markovians rule, well the used to rule, kinda still do I guess. Have you noticed Chalker seems to love changing his characters in pretty much every novel he writes (im talking physical changes)

Yes, he's very gender-swap friendly and I found that very interesting. I certainly could use a new host body myself.

Chalker passed away a few years ago. A very under-recognized author. His books don't seem dated, truly classic Sci-Fi.
