Is Socialism the basis for Vampire/Werewolf/Zombie legends?

What parallels exist between these legends and the philosophies of Socialism?

Normal, logical humans are infected and made into an animalistic subspecies that still has human or semi-human form.

Consistent with socialism. yep.

Though still being human in shape, they can prey upon the healthy productive members of a society, thus harming the society.

Consistent with socialism. yep.

These legends are mythical and don't exist, nor can they exist in reality.

Consistent with socialism. yep.

So, it would appear the the philosophy of socialism, even before Marx wrote it down and named it, was used as the basis for the symbolisms behind such human to sub-human conversions that not only become sub-human but seek to drain the life from normal humans, i.e, brains/blood etc (again symbolism for what socialism seeking to drain the life from a society).

What other parallels exist? What other evidence is out there that shows that these mythical creatures are actually symbols of the philosophy of socialism?

Things such as how since Hollywood has become more liberal, vampires/werewolves have been made to appear romantic and good in movies instead of evil.

As opposed to unfettered capitalism which is based on greed, self fulfillment and survival of the fittest.

A Socialist would claim the opposite that it is the wealthy Bourgeoisie that prey on the Proletariat masses, and that the weak and infirm are sacrificed as being unproductive and irrelevant to the cause of money making. They would also point out that if anything was animalistic it is capitalism, which like much of nature is based very much on the concept of the survival of the fittest, rather than Socialism which is based not on individualism and the survival of the fittest, but on the survival of the community or colony, the original Marxist ideology being that everyone should prosper and be looked after, including the weakest and most marginalised in society. :)

Indeed do the rich in Capitalist states suck the very life blood from the poor in order to sustain their wealth, do the big Pharma Companies and Health Insurance Companies see profit before human life and is this not reflected in their costs, is this not what preys on the poor and squeezes the life blood from the poor, whilst ensuring such companies make massive profits for their share holders. :(

LOL. So tell me, if it started with Vlad the Impaler, also known as Drakul, then why have I read a Japanese folk story about vampires that dates to and was written somewhere around 1000 to 1500 years before Vlad ever lived?

Vlad is the clearest indicator of European style. Furthermore, the Japanese have come up with all kinds of stuff. Including women with eyes on the back of their heads, and amphibians who eat children who wander too close to streams.

And in the original post I clearly noted the concept of socialism, not specifically Marx's codification of it.

Too bad that none of the stories actually come from any period that had socialism.

Pretty sure rabies had something to do with it, rather than socialism, but lol.

No, it is too bad that someone is demonstrating the lack of mental ability to comprehend or appreciate symbolism, metaphor or analogy and instead is bound in ignorance and literalism.

I think you are one of those people who are deeply in love with asian things.... at the expense of denying the reality.

Given your posting history, it's reasonable to assume you were being literal. FYI, just reported that post for TOS violations.

In some cases, I can see that. I am not nearly as accomplished or practiced at analogy, etc as some. Lets just say that I am trying to expand my repertoire of communications skills. Instead of being direct and literal in my defamation and dehumanizing of socialistic philosophies, I am trying to become a bit more indirect, less repetitive and possibly even a bit more readable.

One must wonder if OP has any idea where Vampire/Werewolf/Zombie legends started.

Though I wince at the OP's naked partisan hackery, it's worth it to consider the genesis of the use of zombies in contemporary culture. To be honest, I think it derives at least in part from Christianity, as the main character in 28 DaysLater is first attacked by a priest in a church.

Normal, logical humans are infected and made into an animalistic subspecies that still has human or semi-human form. (What socialist ever says that? That's actually the christian "fallen man," actually it's more the libertarian "men are all naturally selfish" principle.

Consistent with socialism. yep.

Though still being human in shape, they can prey upon the healthy productive members of a society, thus harming the society. (welfare queens, leaches, union thugs, democratic representatives)

Consistent with socialism. yep.

These legends are mythical and don't exist, nor can they exist in reality. (The absolute free market)

Consistent with socialism. yep.

Seams to me it's more inline with Capitalists and libertarians, but it's a stupid thread to begin with.

And in the process looking like an idiot, and being pretty damn ignorant.

I strongly reccomend using five minutes of your day to read this article.

It may be a load of baloney, but it certainly makes for fun reading.

Tl;dr: Zombie movies become more popular when Republicans are in power, and Vampire movies become more popular when Democrats are in power. The articles hypothesises that's because vampires analogise Democrats - they are foreign, parasitic, immoral and sexually deviant - whereas zombies analogise Republicans - they're mindless consumers/capitalists who stamp out non-conformity and can't think for themselves. A good fantheory...

LOL whut? I'm pretty sure that these myths were created before anyone cared for socialism. They may have been co-opted, but not created with the intent.

Subhuman? That's a bit silly.

This is a bit closer, given that collectivist looter ideas require victims...

These legends are mythical and don't exist, nor can they exist in reality.

But socialism does exist, just never in its complete or idealistic form. Its either taken over by a dictator/party or it requires a working capitalist economy to feed off of, hence our mixed economy. But will eventually kill the host if allowed to grow unchecked, like a vampire.

Well I know all the talk about the Zombie Apocalypse is actually talk about preparation for dealing with a threat without naming that threat, like if the SHTF and suddenly everyone around you is without electricity, food or water; Those unprepared people are the zombies.

Given that a ton of game changing inventions come from the state sector, given that in most capitalist countries the state takes care of the externalities of capitalism, given that the state protects property laws and creates institutions of capitalism (corporations), given that large markets are essencially CREATED by the state, given that capitalism is given protection and security making it possible by the state. given that the state educates people, keeps enough security, builds the infastructure and all those things capitalism requires. Given that the state makes sure that people have high enough wages, and enough living standards to spend money and thus let capitalism work. Given that the state has armies to enforce international trade security, given that the state requires the state privitizing the commons and natural resrouces so they can profit from them, given that information is given by the state so that you have less of a problem of isymetric information, given that the state gives a legal framework for employment, contract, and so on.

I'd say that Capitalism feeds of the state.

None of these creatures were spawned in the imagination by socialism, or by capitalism. But they certainly do symbolize contemporary cultural/political/economic qualities in their representations. How could they not? All art and entertainment has something to say about contemporary society...up to and including art and entertainment that isn't trying to say anything. It still is anyway; it has to; because it's not produced in a vacuum.

Sometimes it's completely intentional; in George Romero's zombie movies, for example, there is always some pointed and specific political points being made. Not for no reason was Dawn of the Dead staged in a shopping mall.

Or the pod-aliens of the Body Snatchers coming out at the height of the Red Scare.
