How do you feel about Jesus? Best thing to happen to humanity, worst thing or somewhere in between?
You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else?

So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

He seemed like a cool guy. He healed lots of people and wasn't afraid of anything.

Greatest man, no doubt. Among those of incredible influence, a king of kings.

I am a Christian, but it would be foolish for anyone to deny that Jesus' existence has had a bigger effect on the world than that of any other person.

I'm not sure he isn't a myth. Obviously the idea of Jesus has extraordinary power and has shaped human history for around 2000 years. But I recognize it is possible that the man Jesus was very different than the idea of Jesus that has been presented. I also recognize there may never have been a man, or there could have been several men who were combined into a single literary figure.

I've always liked this:

One Solitary Life

Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.

He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself...

While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth – His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.

Nineteen long centuries have come and gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress.

I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life.

This essay was adapted from a sermon by Dr James Allan Francis in “The Real Jesus and Other Sermons” © 1926 by the Judson Press of Philadelphia (pp 123-124 titled “Arise Sir Knight!”). If you are interested, you can read the original version .

A subverted hippy. Today he'd probably be against the Second Amendment. Tough to water-board too. An enemy of the State.

He's not in my top 10, but he's up there, whether he existed or not.

Re: To non-Christians - Is Jesus of Nazareth one of the greatest humans to have lived

Define greatest? What exactly did jesus do as a man? I cant really think of anything that jesus did as a man that would make him the greatest man ever.

According to the bible jesus didnt really do anything great has a man, but as a god he did some really neat parlor tricks.

If jesus lived today and tried to tell people that he was the the son of god and our lord people would wonder what the hell he was on.

There are plenty of people, real people that have done much greater things than claim to be a god and go on about love and all that silly ****.

he said non christians.

I'm atheist. I don't believe in anything supernatural, nor consciousness after death. Have been since ~7 years old.

To non-Christians - Is Jesus of Nazareth one of the greatest humans to have lived?

Jesus was a non-Christian which is often lost in the discussion.

Re: To non-Christians - Is Jesus of Nazareth one of the greatest humans to have lived

A towering colossus of a man.

Re: To non-Christians - Is Jesus of Nazareth one of the greatest humans to have lived

As is usually the case - the myth is far greater than the reality.

Re: To non-Christians - Is Jesus of Nazareth one of the greatest humans to have lived

Since Jesus THE Christ was the embodiment of God as were perhaps others, he was a great "human being".

Sorry.

I think it's funny that even though the OP specifically requested "non-christians" in the title, christians just can't help spurging their spunk all over the thread.

1500 years of entitlement is hard to break.

Re: To non-Christians - Is Jesus of Nazareth one of the greatest humans to have lived

Anyway, it's almost impossible to answer this question since at least 90% of the NT gospels pertaining to Jesus were made up a later date to satisfy religious, social and political necessities. How would the gospel writers (beginning 80-100 years AD) know what went on between the Maji and Herod? Who was awake to record what went on in the Garden of Gesthemane between Jesus and Yahweh?

You just pulled that number out of your ass.

Fair enough. What % do you think is bull****?

I couldn't say off the top of my head but there have been serious textual studies done that have some basis in scientific fact. You should check out the Jesus Seminar.

Ultimately, it depends on the book. Most of the synoptic Gospels are fairly true to the source material, the lost Q Gospel.

Re: To non-Christians - Is Jesus of Nazareth one of the greatest humans to have lived

He humanized us.

I'm not seeing any Christians (that I know of) offering an opinion as of yet. *shrug*

Then based on how he's portrayed in the record. We're all aware that history may have been rewritten, myth may have replaced fact, but that goes for every figure for a millennium either side of JC's life.

l think yes.nobody would have to start such a thread if he was not that great
