Atheists around world suffer persecution, discrimination: report

Persecution for religious faith and atheism is wrong, many religious minorities face intense legal and social persecution around the world. Many of the nations listen in your link are Islamic theocracies or heavily Islamic populated countries where non-Muslims (atheists, Jews, Christians, Buddhists etc.) are heavily persecuted.

I noticed that as well. Persecution based upon a person's ideals are nothing new in this world. The personal line from the OP says a lot though. "Smart people." What a joke. As if intelligence is related to faith.

News flash: darn near everyone gets persecuted for something at some point.

You forgot the assholes.

Don't the asshole atheists deserve to be protected as well?

Another poster that craps his own thread and derails it in the very first post. We might have had a real discussion about persecution of the faithless and turned a serious eye toward combating unfairness wherever it appear.

But you just want to troll. I find it difficult to believe that you actually give a damn about persecuted atheists, which imo reveals the ugly heart that most internet gadfly athiests possess.

Aww.

Poor seething Atheists.

It is sad that people around the world are still being persecuted for their religious beliefs or lack thereof.

However, being religious does not mean that someone isn't a smart person, and being an atheist certainly doesn't mean that someone is smart. Seems to me you're just hurting your own cause with the way you started this thread.

Yes it is.

Why is it that many religious folks refuse to accept facts and believe in universally accepted theories like evolution and climate change? Why is it that religious people tend to oppose civil rights for minorities and gays. In fact religion was invented to keep stupid people in control. Once people start thinking these religious leaders will lose their influence and society can progress.

I do give a damn about my fellow persecuted high IQers.

I've been reading your posts for over a year now. I'm not sure you belong to this fellowship you are identifying with.

Seriously, you really are crapping on what could be a good thread. I am currently in a country where there are people sitting in prison for doing nothing more than having the gall to say they are atheists. It isn't about IQ and it would be just as wrong if they were imprisoned for being Christians or belonging to another religion.

No we aren't. And, you're making us look bad.

I call not being able to teach creationism, not being able to pray in school, and not being able to set up christmas decorations in Palisades Park persecution and institutionalized discrimination.

Except for the first one, I agree with you.

But to defend the article, but not the OP, what it says is also true. Atheists around the world do face some discrimination, mostly in Islamic countries, but even in the United States, do face discrimination. Despite the fact the OP does his best to obscure it, the article itself has a point.

Why is it that folks like you make stupid overgeneralizations and actually think they are facts when they are not?

There is no persecution of atheists in the United States or in Europe. I do agree that it might be difficult to be an atheist (or a Christian) in Islamic countries.

It's nothing new. Theists for quite some time have had their say and dominance over others. While things are getting better, it's not like it's driven to a "fixed" state.

Though I will say that while it is true that the more educated one is, the more likely they are to be atheist is a true correlation, it is not a causation and there are many very intelligent theists around as well; and they would not be persecuted along these lines (maybe other lines).

Yeah right, we're underrepresented in every branch of government and have absolutely no chance of being elected and that's not based on the job we can do; but rather the bias and bigotry people have against atheists. When I can get elected to office, then we can talk about how there is no persecution. It's definitely not on the level of some other theocracies which still try to hunt down and kill atheists (thanks for not trying to kill us anymore); but it's not like it's all fresh baked apple pies and rainbows either.

As Remarque, would say:

"Nichts Neues im Westen."

You must have the shoulders of a gorilla.

That brush has to weigh a ton.

That Newton. What a bonehead.

Because thinking is hard for some.

Ikari 2016 run?

Yes it is.

MHM....I bet you believe that. Your name says a lot about you. I will laugh whilst I enjoy my life, faith, and LACK of concern of what an "atheist" thinks my intelligence is. Let me know when you have something worthwhile to contribute other than insulting banter.
