Surprised no one willing for country under any circumstance. The soldier who threw himself on a grenade to safe the rest or soldiers who stand essentially a suicidal position so the rest can retreat/escape. What about to take down an airliner before it crashed into a building??? Although to die anyway, you might live a few minutes longer.

If necessary to save my child or wife somehow.

If dehabilitatingly terminally ill and only painfully waiting for the final end, burdening others. However, I would attempt to prevent it appearing a suicide for their sake. I would see myself as dead already and only a burden for pointless suffering.

I would die for my comrades, but that wasn't a poll option. Ten years ago, I would have given my life for my country but frankly I've lost faith in it; I think the republic is dying, and dying myself to preserve it wouldn't benefit the nation at all.

The only reason I would commit suicide is if I was going to die anyway, only a lot slower and more painfully than a bullet to the head.

so you're with me on the surrounded by rabid animals/zombies thing?

So, I was wondering, under what circumstances one would commit suicide?
Do you think suicide can be justified or is a unconditional taboo?
Well?

;)

P.S. Option No. 7 to be read "wouldn't". Sorry for the typo.

I would sacrifice my life if it meant saving my children.

Otherwise, no, I wouldn't commit suicide.

Meh. I've nearly done it before out of depression, I could certainly do it for an actual cause.

I would not give up my consciousness even in the face of great suffering.

I would gladly commit suicide if it meant saving my family. Anything else, Hellz to the NO!

Maybe. It would depend on the exact situation.

what if there were 666 rabid guinea pigs around you, big ones, and you had a vintage colt 1911, 7 in the magazine, and one in the chamber. replace the 666 gunea pigs with 111 zombies if you dont like guinea pigs. also, you can't run, because you're in a tunnel made of titanium and although there is an entrance, there are more guinea pigs/zombies out there waiting for you. the saw guy set this up for you.

for me to consider it, my quality of life would have to be zero. I had a close call as a teenager, and it would have been a tremendous mistake. I would have missed out on the most meaningful and fulfilling experiences of my life.

the problem with suicide is not only that it's a lousy "solution" to a problem. it's also awful for those left behind. a friend of mine just killed himself a couple weeks back, and he left behind a devastated family. when you do something like that, you lay all of your problems on everyone who cares all at once.

to sum, I suppose I could see someone choosing to avoid horrendous physical pain at the end of life. as for the romanticized escape hatch that suicide has transformed into in pop culture, though, no way.

Well, if it was the guinea pigs, I'd just wade through them, stomping them to death as I go. Sure, I'd get bitten a few times probably, but the rabies would take days to kill me and I could be cured.

If it was zombies though, I'd save the last bullet for myself.

lets replace guinea pigs with chupacabras

I know its possible to move on, but I wouldn't want to . And no one is the same after losing a child. I could only imagine the emptiness and pain omeone woukld suffer everyday. Now if I lost a child or all but one I would have my remaining child/children to keep going for. But just to exist for the sake of existence seems futile.

You would be surprised what time can heal. Sure, things would never be the same, but some people go on living for them.
