1) Be impeccable with your word

2) Don't take anything personally

3) Don't make assumptions

4) Always do your best

5) Be skeptical, but listen

I started on the path of becoming a toltec about 10 years ago, when a friend turned me on to the teachings of don Miguel Ruiz and his book "The Four Agreements"... Since then, my life has been transformed beyond my wildest dreams. What must be understood is that the 5 agreements of the toltec are not a religion, but a way of life. However, it is a way of life that honors all the major religions of the world....

While I've remained a Christian through all this transformation in my own life, I now realize that I never chose my beliefs - they were chosen for me.... What becoming a toltec has done for me is open up a whole new perspective on my Christian faith that I never knew existed. I can see through all the lies, the smoke and calamity going on around me - I now know that I am not my body, my mind, or even my soul. I am life itself - and the dream is mine alone.

Anyone can become a toltec - the most important (and probably) quickest way to do so is to be impeccable with your word - not gossip or speak ill about your fellow human beings (and that includes myself). The second most important rule is never take anything personally. Nothing anyone does is because of me, or is about me in any way, or is my problem. If someone says I am the best or worst, that is their problem. Even is someone were to threaten me with violence, it is not about me, it's about them. In short, I don't need anyone to tell me what I am, because I KNOW what I am already. And true happiness is not about being loved by others, but about me loving them.....

Don Miguel Ruiz is a toltec master - he teaches that we are all artists and dreamers. We are dreaming, not only when we sleep, but when we are awake as well. The closer I get to mastering this beautiful way of life, the more I am able to master my own dream of Heaven.

Will add more later - in the meantime....

Imo, true religion is a way of life. It's a way of thinking, and perceiving, about one's place in the universe, and about how one should interact with the world around him.

Sounds valid to me since unless Ruiz is asking for money. Buddhism seems to be more philosophy than religion. The Hari Krishna have a philosophy. In Asia they are known as the food religion. They take it upon themselves to feed everyone in need for a given radius of their location.

Every religion I know of claims to have a philosophy but when they put most emphasis on obedience I begin to wonder.

I tend to think that's just the groupthink tendencies, and you will see them in virtually any type of social group setting, whether it be religion, political party, or street gang. People who want to belong to groups, seem to be far more likely to submit to obedience than those who consider their individuality more important.
