I was suprised that that market model has made it this far.

Yep, good riddance.

However, I am curious why Reverend Hellh0und and Lightdemon say, "Good riddance"? Do you think that Starbucks has gone overboard in opening stores? I'm not making any judgments on your commentary--just want to understand it. |

I fully believe in the market and Starbucks was long "oversaturated" It's overpriced crap coffee was nothing more than sugar drinks that people thought were mere coffee. Now that they are finding it not to be colorically typical coffee and not wanting to pay 9 bucks a cup for it, the novelty has worn off.
And that machine? What are they thinking?
I am more of a tea drinker as good cofee is a real treat and a real rarity. Also I am huge into supporting local mom and pop stores and individual start-ups.
It will be nice to see things going up that are not statbucks or another bank. |

One of the few times that I agree with the Reverend. It just goes to show ya, how bringing down an evil corporate giant can unite people.
The thing that annoyed me the most was the you can find 3 starbucks in 3 consecutive blocks as you drive down the street (a slight exaggeration). But you get what I'm saying, right? I mean, how productive can that be? The building cost, maintenance cost, operational costs, payroll, all in the same area?? That's just a horrible tactic.
What I think they intended was a hangout spot, and since the stores usually aren't that big, they tend to open up more stores in places where people hang out more often. I guess they wanted to be like a day-time bar or something.
But yea, I think the space could be better used. |

Just to add, there are at least 4 Starbucks within a one mile radius from where I work.

I'll give you stupid. Like home depot stupid. But yeah, I prefer the sea shanty on the coast to legal seafood anyday. Quote: |

| NYC midtown has several on consecutive blocks. Quote:

it was the $9 cup of coffee and the selling of essentially hot milk shakes that killed em store wise it was the over abundance of stores. |
