Pretty sure Jesus would party like His birthday. :2razz:

happy holimass to all

July 4th is a National Holiday in the US. Do we say Happy Holiday to people when that day approaches?

I think the issue is that Merry Christmas has become a generic reference to December 25. It may have had a religious genesis, but over time, that changed.

The fact "Merry Christmas" has become a rallying point for people offended that it is a specific religious expression has resulted in people becoming nervous about using it. That has led to the perception there is a war on Christmas, which to a degree there is.

At this point in time, a world has been created where ignoring PC considerations, like saying "Merry Christmas", can potentially bring down unwanted grief and attention. It's a shame people allow the proponents of such attacks to gain so much undeserved power and attention.

So whether Merry Christmas ignores accuracy from a religious perspective, or not, it's the perception among the people that using the phrase could offend someone that is the point of the whole absurd issue.

I have always held the idea that "Happy Holidays" (plural) covered both Christmas and New Years since they're both close together.

Ditto but some people just seem to look for reasons to get upset

Anyone that would get upset about this sort of thing probably would also get pissed off if someone told them "good morning" on any other regular day.

Bingo

and it is frequently the same people who whine about "others" being PC

I have never had anyone be offended regardless of if I said Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays...its a wish for happiness.... people need to get over their own misery

I always thought it covered thanksgiving too. I personally say Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and, Happy New Year, respectively. I'm not offended by "Happy Holidays" at all, but I think it's silly if someone is offended by "Merry Christmas". I also have no problem saying Happy Hanukkah to Jewish people. Just be happy, that's the important thing.

So, Happy Holidays to you Bob. :)

It is my personal hope that Jeff Sessions does not reverse the trend to legalize medical pot with his rather misinformed viewpoint on marijuana

Believe it or not, me too. This is one area where I diverge with some of my conservative compatriots. Always err on the side of liberty. :rock

There have always been a number of conservatives that were strongly against the whole 'war on drugs' issue. William F Buckley spoke very eloquently on it. I think there have been a lot of unintended consequences (to the negative) about the 'war on drugs', but being 'against crime' has always been a good selling point for getting votes. William Buckley pushed for legalizing all drugs. I am not sure I would want to go that far, but decriminalizing all drugs, and getting more money for rehabilitation for chronic uses rather than jail sentences seems to be much more economical to me. That issue is one of the very few I would agree with Buckley on (but he argued so well.. even when I disagreed)

I just say Happy Holidays because it's supposed to encompass Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve all in one.

But I have to problem saying Merry Christmas, and I do all the time.

I wish all DP'ers a joyous and happy holiday season!

:2wave: MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM MY HOUSE TO YOURS!
