I have always held the idea that "Happy Holidays" (plural) covered both Christmas and New Years since they're both close together. :shrug:July 4th is a National Holiday in the US. Do we say Happy Holiday to people when that day approaches?
I think the issue is that Merry Christmas has become a generic reference to December 25. It may have had a religious genesis, but over time, that changed.
The fact "Merry Christmas" has become a rallying point for people offended that it is a specific religious expression has resulted in people becoming nervous about using it. That has led to the perception there is a war on Christmas, which to a degree there is.
At this point in time, a world has been created where ignoring PC considerations, like saying "Merry Christmas", can potentially bring down unwanted grief and attention. It's a shame people allow the proponents of such attacks to gain so much undeserved power and attention.
So whether Merry Christmas ignores accuracy from a religious perspective, or not, it's the perception among the people that using the phrase could offend someone that is the point of the whole absurd issue.

Anyone that would get upset about this sort of thing probably would also get pissed off if someone told them "good morning" on any other regular day. :roll:Ditto but some people just seem to look for reasons to get upset

Same to you.I always thought it covered thanksgiving too. I personally say Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and, Happy New Year, respectively. I'm not offended by "Happy Holidays" at all, but I think it's silly if someone is offended by "Merry Christmas". I also have no problem saying Happy Hanukkah to Jewish people. Just be happy, that's the important thing.
So, Happy Holidays to you Bob.
No offense to anyone but we say: Merry Christmas!
Farm out man!

It is my personal hope that Jeff Sessions does not reverse the trend to legalize medical pot with his rather misinformed viewpoint on marijuana
Believe it or not, me too. This is one area where I diverge with some of my conservative compatriots. Always err on the side of liberty. :rock
