I got distracted at work and I've found $2500+ in the past 30 minutes for various family members on the Treasury websites for both Wisconsin and Illinois.

Grandma had a uncashed IRA check, cousin had missed paycheck from his old job, dad had some phone bill refund, ...

A couple of people owe me a drink right now, lol.

Google search your state + unclaimed property. The site is whichever .gov website that pops up.

We got a bunch for my dad once from another state he had not lived in since he was in his early 20's. It was related mostly to an insurance policy that he did not know still existed, and a little bit of it was related to a bank account he still had open with a few dollars in it that he forgot about when he moved.

FWIW, in terms of bank accounts the limitation in Illinois used to be 7 years; after that, unclaimed monies were surrendered.

No idea if that changed over the years ...

Do you have a link or cite for that?

;)

What we truly need is a universal link - one anyone can use at any time to satisfy the demand for a link. Stress is a killer, so eliminating stress over providing a link should be a priority.
