Like the titles says, things that remind you of your childhood and better/simpler times. One is a song by tracy lawrence, if the world had a front porch, it reminds me of when I grew up in the 90's in the isolated socal desert, and my multi generational family and the neighbors and friends would all congregate around the porch and tell stories, smoke and drink, and live life like it was simple.

But what is it for you all?

Winter time. Smell of fireworks. Reminds me of Christmas when my granddaddy was still here.

Lots of things. A gazillion songs, for one.

Bluegrass reminds me of my Dad, he loved that stuff. Antique cars too.

Piano solo reminds me of my Mom, she played. Azaleas too, she loved her azalea bushes.

The sound of an old Ford 8N tractor reminds me of my father and grandfather, the former inherited it from the latter. When I was little I loved to ride on the tractor with my grandpaw, and later I worked alongside my Dad on the old farm using that same tractor. It came to me in time as well, but it was too decrepit to put back together again. A fellow who dealt in antique farm equipment bought it off me and spent about 3k and half a year restoring it. Miss that old thing.

I always like remembering the first snowfall, and running to the front door

"you know the deal you have to let me inside now"

M&Ms easter commercial, think I was like 10-12 when this came out LOL

BAWK BAWK!!!!!

You know, you reminded me of how the family used to get together and play cards for hours. Almost all the adults smoked and the room would look like someone had a fog machine going. :D

In the summer it was badminton or softball out in the back yard. My Mom and my oldest sister fought like cats and dogs over whether a shot was "in" or "out". :D

We would play cards, but no softball or badmintom. It was mostly tlking about politics, family affairs, down to everything thing in everyones life. It was like the public meeting grounds for my family.

Yeah the songs.

Whenever I hear Elvis, I think of Momma. Momma loves her some Elvis.

I just thought of something... Do you guys remember those dangerous a$$ lawn darts we used to toss back and forth? That's crazy. Nobody would ever do that now!

My sister and I spending a week or two in the Summer at my Grandma's house. She didn't live too far from us, but it was a whole different world, since she taught us how to bake Slovak-type pastries like strudel and a European form of baklava, which took hours of stretching the dough until it covered her large kitchen table in order to make it thin enough to use. I am so thankful today that she did take the time to teach us - I always bake them during the Holidays and have taught my daughters how to make them too, so the old recipes from Eastern Europe aren't forgotten.

My Mother never made those goodies, but limited herself to American-style cookies and cakes - but IIRC, my siblings and I sure didn't have a problem gobbling them up, too! Oddly, my dad was the only pie baker at our house, probably because he made the best pie crust in the world, according to my mom - and she was right as far as we were concerned! Memories.....

Strangely, this song by Lana Del Rey:

It makes me reflect on what my youth was like as I ponder where I am now.

My childhood was not that great especially as I got older so I dont get nostalgic most of the time, but writing my memoirs and being retired with a lot of time on my hands has caused me to think about the old times a lot. It has been pretty amazing, I have changed enough over 5 decades that I now am understanding the people who were in my life the a lot better than I ever have before. Since about the age of 9 I have made it a practice to try to remember things that seem like they might be important, which now works almost like having puzzle pieces in my memory, which I now manipulate with my ever growing wisdom to put together. It has been very gratifying.

But as to the OP smells take be back, foods, songs, it could be anything. Just yesterday the sun was streaming into my bedroom window and I remembered a time when I was six laying on my bunk bed in the house on Kentucky as the sun came in my window one brilliant summer day, as the birds were chirping, as I was thinking how grand life is. THen I started to wonder why where I live now in the year 2016 I almost never hear birds like I did constantly in Illinois during the 60's/70's.

Brains are weird.
