Can someone explain to me why parents do this?

I have a friend on Facebook whose child is sick. Last night she posted a picture of him looking ill staring at the camera. Just now she posted an even sicker looking child - a close up of his pale, sick face. WHY??? What is the point of this?

For some Facebook is their world and cannot help themselves and post anything and everything to remain "in touch" with the world. Strange side effect of the internet.

Normally one of two things:

"Being a parent is so hard!"

Or

"This is why I am not at work".

I think Casper nailed it. A lot of people seem to put WAY more stock in social media than it deserves.

I know people just post anything and everything, but why aren't they thinking about what their child wants or thinks? Who wants someone to take a picture of them when they're at their sickest let alone post it for all of their friends and family to see? Something about it is just off.

Social Media is all about why YOU are special. It has little to nothing to do with anyone else unless that someone else makes you more special.

I don't get it either. My wife and I both have facebook accounts we post to occasionally, but we are in agreement that we won't be documenting our kids' entire lives on there. A few pictures/videos to share with friends/family we don't see often is no big deal, but I refuse to be one of those parents that posts about their kid once a day or more.

Attention. Looking for sympathy. Munchhausen's worst case. Oh wait! An "Idiot Litmus Test!"

Because they are assholes?

I theoretically have a Facebook account. Theoretically. I really only use it because it's necessary to log into a game. My blogs auto-post to it. I don't think I've actually logged into Facebook in more than a year. Probably never will again. People put way too much emphasis on social media.

People post some sick **** on fb..

I don't understand Facebook.

Almost everyone in my circle has cut way back on Facebook posting. I myself only log on once or twice a week, and only very briefly. I never posted much, but I did read and look at pics.

I have a FB account, I post maybe 2 times a year.... I have connected with some long lost chums,, Even then it's hey remember me? Yea sure!!, doing great!! ummm, ummm.

I have never had a Facebook or Twitter or any other social media account. I have no interest in social media and no need to share my life with anyone. Although, I have recently joined Minds.com which appears to be like Facebook for grown-ups. I have not posted anything, just wander through and look at stuff, and I may leave that if I stop reading interesting stuff.

I don't have one, but like you I like to play the games. I used to play via my wife's account until we had several we both wanted to play. A close friend of mine who doesn't play games, well one I don't bother with, lets me now play on her account so I can play with or against my wife, depending on the type of game. She's also friended my kids, so I can see their posts. Beyond those two things I have no need to Facebook. There is nothing I particularly want to post.

I don't play any of the Facebook games, I have one that requires that you have a Facebook account though in order to log in. I fought having an account for a very long time and, having experienced the crap that is Facebook, never bother looking at it.

But they're nice assholes.

Remember them to know what not to do and take in what everybody posted to you. Don't let it weigh on you but instead be strong. Strong isn't to take on the weight of what others may throw onto you. That's for the weak whom can't prevent that oncome. The strong beat it back and move on to do the job of protecting themselves, their loved ones, and being better than themselves to make whatever size their world a better place, IMHO.

I got fed up with FaceSpace and I don't have it now.

I would accept friendships with people I knew marginally from highschool, because I'm ok with your vacation trips and your updates to your life goals and new jobs. I want to see it. That's fine.

But when you SPAM me with your dog photos and your kids at summer camp and your kids at baseball practice and your kids ANYTHING, I'm out. No one but YOU cares about your damn kids. Spare us.

What is Facebook??

To the point, some people believe that the minutia of their pathetic lives is of interest to other less anal people. Thus, Facebook.

See, that's one thing I'd never do. If I didn't keep up with people from high school or college, there's a reason. If I cared enough to keep in contact, I'd already be in contact. Anyone I'm not in contact with, I have no interest in talking to. And you're right, I have no interest in any of the stupid crap in their life. I don't want to see what you're eating. Why are people so self-absorbed today?

I seriously don't get that.

Seeking attention and sympathy for themselves, maybe?

I don't get Facebook? People bragging I have 500 friends or more.
Give me a break. To have 3 or 4 really good friends takes lots of time and effort
by both of you. Clicking on someones Facebook page is not a friend.

Don't have a Facebook account and don't plan on getting one.
I have heard stories when a person is I think it's called unfriended goes wacky over being unfriended? Crazy stuff

 Apparently, Facebook is in the same category with McDonald's and Walmart... no one will admit to being low-brow enough to go there, yet they're wildly successful.
