Which celebrity deaths hit you the hardest

Yeah, John being killed was quite a shock. I guess I can add Gilda Radner dying of cancer at 43 to the list. And, of course all the 27's that died from drugs or suicide have been rather eye-popping, but not all that unexpected.

Brandon Lee being killed on set would be the most surprising and unfortunate celebrity death though.
And also, nothing quite hit like the Kennedy's.

Dr. King was big, but the Kennedy brothers struck at the fabric of our nation - our governance!

you had better not post in such threads.Your negative energy makes me sick

Your mindless emotionalism is disgusting.

Too many to list.

Glenn Frey and Gene Wilder are the most recent.

Mickey Mantle
Ronald Reagan

I'm mostly struck by the celebrities who have not yet died. Keith Richards comes immediately to mind.

Hmmm.

Number 1? Jimmy Stewart

Close behind? Paul Newman, Steve McQueen. Car guys to the core - and great actors.

Honorable mentions: Robin Williams, John Candy, Chris Farley - They made me laugh, while keeping the tears to themselves....

John Bonham of Led Zeppelin hit hard - because I knew then that I'd never get to see them in concert. The other one that hit hard was Princess Diana.

And I'm dreading seeing so many of the rockers of my youth pass away, most of all Paul McCartney. I did see him in concert, and it ruined all other concerts for me that I've ever seen. It was worth it at twice the price.
My sister has already announced that she will be inconsolable when Sir Paul dies.

There were more than a few. The hardest ones are yet to come though.

John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Peter Sellers, Barbra Streisand.

I haven't really missed any. I was born in '70, so wasn't impacted much by Lennon, although it will certainly affect me when McCartney goes. Same with Stallone, Eddie Van Halen, Eddie Murphy, Burt Reynolds...some of the biggest early 80's stars who really impacted my childhood and teens. But so far, none have hit me that hard.

In general I am not too phased by celebrity deaths. I'll spend a few minutes reminiscing about some of the things they did I liked but then I move on.

But there are some celebrities that hit me a little harder. Maybe I tear up or spend hours watching old clips of them as a way to mourn.

I think the celebrity deaths that have hit me the hardest so far were Mr Rogers and Robin Williams.

The celebrity deaths that I am dreading the most are probably Stephen King and Patrick Stewart. I adore Patrick Stewart as a person and performer and Stephen King has given me and continues to give me hours upon hours of joy.

So, which celebrity deaths hit you the hardest and which do you dread the most?

For me it was Whitney Houston. What a tremendous voice.

Duane Allman
had just attended an Allman Brothers show weeks earlier and became an immediate fan
after his death got rid of mine and never rode a motorcycle again

The guy from INXS was a shock. It didn't really hit me hard, per se, but I began following the band after seeing them play in a bar back in 1982 or 3. So, his death was like, WTF?

The only "celebrity" deaths I ever am saddened by personally are authors whose work I love, like Sir Terry Pratchett.

I was at a talk by Neil Gaiman, who in the question and answer section discussed talking to Terry Pratchett before he died.. and also the fact of what he had at the funeral.

THere was the sword he made when he got Knighted (made from iron from a meteor btw).. and there was a little card on top of the casket that only had two word on it.
"The End"

I never really got into American Gods or Stardust, but what Gaiman did for Pratchett after his death have me an inordinate fondness for the man.

What Gaiman did for him the last time he visited Terry is even better. Terry was getting into dementia, and was withdrawn. Gaiman's wife had told him how music helps connect dementia patients to the real world.. so when teh caretaker left, and Niel was sitting there, very withdrawn, Neil started singing a song Terry had in common with, and after a bit, Terry started singing along with Neil. After the song was finished, Neil and Terry had a good converstaion for about 45 minutes before Neil had to leave. That human contact, where Terry could reconnect with an old friend, and be more himself is worth much more than anything he might have done after his passing.

Well let's see:

Richard Pryor.. The funniest comedian ever, And a pretty good actor..
Johnny Carson.. The best late night talk show host that has never been bettered
John Wayne.. who never made a bad movie..
Marylin Monroe.. who was so sexy it hurt..

probably a few more but those quickly come to mind..
