I wanted to have some music on the job site (often far from power). I just got my Anker SoundCore Sport XL ($60 from Amazon). It has decent volume, good bluetooth range, very clear sound, amazing bass for such a small unit, long battery life and will charge my cellphone and/or iPod. It is also quite durable and water tight.

Nice, been thinking about getting a blue tooth speaker for the same reasons. Little more than I was hoping to pay, but I don't know how cheap you can realistically get a decent blue tooth speaker.

Been meaning to pick up something like this for some time. Thanks for helping me decide which to get.

Many are available a lower cost but if they are not able to withstand the hostile environment then why waste your money replacing them when (not if) they fail?

Yeah, with things like this cheap usually means a very short life span. It's worth paying a little more if it lasts.

A good (long lasting) battery and weather proof, durable shell add weight - oddly the ratings appear to add points for long battery life, weather proofing and sturdy construction but subtract points for the (associated?) added weight and cost. ;)

Here is my preference.

Small BluTooth receiver. During the day I clip it inside my shirt and wear earbuds underneath, I can pop in an earbud working at my desk or out running errands with the wife. At home use Bose QC-2 headphones.

In addition to streaming music or audio from CNN or Fox, it has a microphone and so if I get a phone call I don't have to take the phone out of the holster, just tap the button and talk away.

Use of headphones or earbuds block too much other sound and often interfere with placing a pencil in my hatband behind my ear or hinder the occasional use of safety glasses. I often crawl under buildings or climb a ladder through tree branches - anything that can snag or fall off will.

Just throwing a very mobile low visibility, low interference alternative to portable BluTooth speakers for personal listening (not applicable to a group of course).

But...

1. Earbuds go in the ears not over them so they don't interfere with placing a pencil in a hatband, behind the ear (see #2) or use of safety glasses. I wear glasses for vision correction and safety glasses when trimming yard/bushes - no interference.

2. I totally agree that two earbuds can attenuate external sound. So I only where one at work or when driving. (Which of course gives you one ear with nothing in it for a pencil.)

3. As I mentioned, the unit at work (by me) is clipped inside my shirt and that includes the cord to the earbuds for a low visibility wear, if it snags on something inside a shirt - well there are bigger problems.

Just wondering, do you take your portable BluTooth speakers when crawling under buildings, climbing ladders or through tree branches?

Took awhile since moving kinda sucked up all my spare cash, but finally got mine today. Love it so far, very nice sound. Would have liked a little more volume, but can't really complain for the price. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Try turning up the volume on the source device. The volume controls on the speaker seem to have limited range.

I am laying in bed listening to it now, will try that tomorrow. I do like the sound, listening to Neurosis, Through Silver in Blood and it sounds great. Good falling to sleep music.

My sister has one. The only thing I have seen it do is tell bad jokes.

I listen to radio from all over the world on it, set alarms on it, control the lights in my house with it, etc. Awesome little device.

I wish you hadn’t made this thread, I have such a weakness for gadgets and very cool bluetooth speakers are hard to resist. I almost hit add to cart on the amazon site but I must be strong and at least think about it for the day. Anker makes some great products, hands down the best portable charges for the money. I have a friend doing a complete field test on one of their new products the astro E7 26800 mAh charger. He’s been staying at my of grid fishing cabin for 10 days now on vacation. I’m not using the E7 to charge devices I’m using it for lighting. Currently I have four 340 lumens bulbs/lights hooked up to it, these are USB powered and very efficient. The battery is still more than 1/2 full with an average use of four hours per night over those ten days, It’s a beast of a charger.

The Anker speaker you purchased interests me on a few points, It’s water proofing rating is the best out their for a speaker with that type of performance. Currently, I use a JBL splash while out on my boat. At times I just stop fishing and float around having some lunch with a little music. The JBL is water resistant but not rated for an accidental submersion. The JBL was $149 if memory serves, great speaker but the specs on the Anker are better. As you can see I’m talking myself into purchasing this speaker, I’m so weak.
