Reality check: disclosing salaries online

What a stupid video.

Not all people are of the same caliber even if filling the same position.

At which point in the video was that suggested? I must have missed it.

"What a stupid video"

Oh, ExCon thinks the video was stupid. Now, one sentence doesn't explain much about how or why the video is apparently stupid. Maybe he will explain why in following sentences. Let's read on!

"Not all people are of the same caliber even if filling the same position."

Um, no ****, sherlock? What does this have to do with the video? Anything? Because the video didn't make such a suggestion. The overall thrust of the video is "employees should talk to each other about salary because this gives them a better bargaining position." Which is ****ing true. If you were expecting a comprehensive breakdown of the myriad reasons salaries vary from person to person in a three minute, comedic youtube web series, I don't know what the **** to tell you. People have different job responsibilities and titles, different numbers of hours worked, different experience levels and seniorities in the company, different performance levels, and many more characteristics that may affect overall compensation. News flash: employees are clever enough to understand this and should still talk to each other about salary.

Get a grip.
1. This is not about me. So take your disdain and push on.
2. If you want to have a discussion/argument fine, attempt that. Your off-the wall comments didn't count and you have an additional problem of actually agreeing with me.

JFC! Which it is why it was pointed out.
Do you really not understand that?

While you may believe that, it only focuses on one side of an opinionated coin and does not bother to speak to the pitfalls.
Pointing out that not every one is as capable of performing (of the same caliber) as another is very relevant to that.
The idiot saying you "Dick head" to his boss and demanding a raise was symptomatic of the video's idiocy at best.

The video itself is stupid.
If it wants to inform folks of what they can and can't do, fine, do it in an accurate way, not one could get someone in trouble.

No one should be going around advocating people become busybodies like he is being, especially while on the clock.

Just my unbacked opinion but if salaries are listed and same positions end up differing in pay, it'd be good to have someone at least tell you why you get paid more/less then the other person or people. At least could possibly help quell a bit of animosity.

You know that's a comedy series right?

and when you find out the manager thinks less of you than the other employees, how do you think you are going to feel?

Not perfect? The knowledge of different pay is sufficient to bring whatever question you seem to think is so important.

salaries have always been kept secret because animosity kills production

People generally know what someone, or at least a position, is paid.

i have employees who think they are best paid in a certain department....and are middle of the pack

Silly.

managing your employees, their expectations, their pay, and the payroll of a company is one of the most important functions of management

Platitude.

some do it well.....others not so much

Again.

They are paid exactly what they earn.

Then the difference in pay between women and men, for the same positions, is a result of women being inferior employees?

You'd have to produce evidence of men and women, in the same positions, with the same experience and seniority who work the same number of hours and who have negotiated for better salaries, getting paid differently. Come on back when you can eliminate those variables.

Common data, known for decades. Your request displays gross ignorance.

if you are paying women less than men, maybe you need to look in the mirror

Is There a Real Wage Gap Between Men and Women?

When accounting for relevant factors that affect pay, such as education, choice of industry and occupation, hours worked, experience and career interruptions, the difference between average male and female wages shrinks to about 5 to 7 cents on the dollar.

There is little, if any, evidence for widespread discrimination in wages and employment based on gender in the U.S.

In other words, the earnings ratio between women and men becomes 93 percent to 95 percent after accounting for relevant differentials between individuals.

But even this remaining gap is not necessarily an outcome of discrimination. If women disproportionately choose employers who will provide more of their compensation in the form of benefits than wages, this too would affect the overall wage gap.

In addition, there are limitations to currently available data to analyze factors such as work experience and job tenure in conjunction with factors like occupation and industry.

Then you shouldn't have any problem producing it, should you?

Of course not but I won't satisfy gross ignorance. Pretend there's no wage difference or that it only exists because women don't negotiate. I don't care, it's clownish.

Because you have nothing and you know you have nothing. You're just proving yourself to be a fool. Go ahead. Nobody is surprised.

Prove to me blahblahblah!

Was it planes that hit the towers?

We have video of that. There's no question at all because there is evidence.

Where's yours? Oh wait... you've got nothing.

The Feds have always done this. Private sector hates it cause it causes a lot of employee resentment.

So have the states and localities.

Many corporations also do this. At least to the stockholders.

If I'm thinking of buying a stock, I want to know how top loaded it is.

all corporations disclose top officers pay if they are public companies....part of the sec filings

most other public firms do not disclose wages....for a number of reasons

unlike government where two jobs can be universally compared, in the real world that rarely happens....

this person has x, y, and z added to her basic job, while she has a, b, and c added to hers

they are both admin assistants, but doing two very different jobs

one may have college while the other none....

one may always stay late to finish projects while the other has to rush out at 5pm to get her kids

not saying that is wrong, but as a manager if you dont think i take that into consideration, you would be an idiot

too many differences....and too much animosity....

bad idea for public companies.....i will never allow anywhere i manage

Then you shouldn't have any problem producing it, should you?

Don't you know the "men and women, in the same positions, with the same experience and seniority who work the same number of hours" in the people you work with on a daily basis?

Yes I do, and they do make the same amount of money. I'm not the one claiming that they don't. He was, he totally failed to prove anything, and then he acted like a child when it was pointed out. Not a surprise, really.
