Finally got a vacation

True to some extent. What I wanted to do was gps my location and find out the depth of the gulf where I was at and what kind of sea life was prevalent where I was at at any given time. And occasionally talk and share pics with you nerds from time to time.

Also I have all my pics on a cloud and the wife and I did a 10 day Mayan ruins trip for our honeymoon years ago and I wanted to share some of those pics with some other folks here that went with us on the tulum Mayan ruins excursion.

I know, it's hard to let go of the leash some times but most of us won't be offended by a week old picture.

Yup. I prefer to keep you on choke-chain leash.

Cruises always seemed to me to be a way to spend 3x as much as i would on a regular vacation.

And being the naturally cheap type, paying through the nose for excursions and drinks on board would just grate on me.. I'd be like Charlie and Frank in IASIP wearing an overcoat lined with beer.

But then again, these days I seem to have more money than time, so maybe I should consider one...

Just got back from my first cruise. Had fun. Was always skeptical of cruises. I thought if them as the best way to have a captive audience whose walls you can constantly rape. Wasnt quite that bad. lol

Overall a pretty good experience though. Toured the ancient Mayan ruins of tulum. Neat area. Still on the ship now actually. At port in Galveston for one more day. Gonna check out Houston and Austin then head back to Denver before going home. Tomorrow we catch an Astros game. I think it's against the orioles.

Pfft mister fancy pants here, the only cruise my redneck salary can afford is cruising the lake in a bassboat, drinking beer.

I'd actually enjoy that more than being shoehorned into a massive, top-heavy, multi-tiered sardine can clinging to a life-preserver and counting the hours until I can see dry land again! Yeah, I'm not cruise material, lol.

Huh, for whatever reason a cruise never appealed to me. People do seem to enjoy them though.

I go camping for vacations.

Crusing is a lot like camping, except with air conditioning and running water and constantly prepared food and alcohol. Come to think about it, it is nothing like camping. Carry on.

September we are hoping to go to the falls at the bottom of the grand canyon. We'll see if it pans out. I really would like to hit Costa Rica and Belize. Wife's not up for Costa Rica but is group for Belize. She wants south America or Europe to be our next big focus though.

Belize has some very impressive ruins, and a trip through the countryside can be interesting, but it's not a good beach or entertainment destination at all. You know why they have been advertising "come to Belize" on US tv? It's because no one really wants to be there.

Cool, I'm not the cruise type, have no desire to be on them. I spent years flying alone to odd places and seeing countries on street level, busses, taxi, subways, etc. I'm trying to plan a 7-10 day trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua for Sept for me and my GF. I can fly free on standby, but we are going to buy tix, some really cheap fares out there.

Same. Ive never been on a cruise. I'd prefer to get a hotel and do some traveling in the nearby regions of where ever I go to. I prefer museums, architecture and tourist sites over sitting down and watching people perform.

You have not been to Ambergris Cay, or my favorite hippie Cay, Cay Caulker!

Congratulations! Cruises give you some of the best memories of your life...of course, I've never been on a "cruise ship" - all mine were "haze gray and underway" Navy.

But if you're of the inclination, I strongly recommend going on the other side of the planet. I ache to return to London to see all the history that I didn't have a chance to explore, and I hated not getting a chance to really interact with the locals in Paris...

...but the ones that really got my attention were in Southeast Asia, seeing lives lived so differently...but in many ways, so similarly to my younger years in the MS Delta. It's a long story.

But the very best thing I did was to go on a safari. It was a bargain-basement safari out of Mombasa, Kenya - a taxi driver essentially drove us around the country in a sorta-kinda Jeep for three days, with nights at resorts at Tsavo East and Amboseli - but it was freaking incredible. Absolutely incredible. If you get a chance to go on a safari, DO IT! Just remember to take the security and the sanitation seriously...and tip your driver generously and treat him (and everyone) with courtesy and politeness. And remember, it's not a vacation - you'll be dog tired at the end of every day - but it's a heck of an adventure!

Heard there was some good snorkeling there. I'd probably hit the ruins though.

Here's a cruise for you I used to do as a kid with my folks. 3 hour tubing in a crystal clear cold spring fed river in North Florida. Look up Ichetucknee river tubing.

Warning... it's some really cold water.

If youre ever in new Mexico or Arizona or four corners area I can tip you on some really neat things to see.

Down side on the cruise... they themed a lot of music to the 80's which is my era but the house band was awful and constantly butchered the songs.

Interesting misread in that I'm trying to get a hep C Vax at work. I work in the field 4 of the 5 days if the week and I come across heroine needles here and there. The northern part of my jurisdiction is the worst per capita deaths by heroine od in the country.

I am glad you had a good vacation. There is no Hep C van at this point in time as far as I know. You are correct to be concerned as Hep c is highly infectious and you are risk if exposed to needles.

You are going to have to prevent a needlestick.

They said that have a vax for hep C in a series of shots I can take. I know the cure just came out but if you need a cure it's a series of shots that is around $85,000 to take and will only have like a 70% chance of working or something like that.

No Hep C vaccine exists.

The cure works very, very well, though.

Btw... a week or so ago it was in the news about a lady falling over the railing a disappeared into the vast blue ocean forever... that was this ship I'm on. Creepy.

Too bad Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't there to save her.

No vac yet I hope one is developed soon. Be careful! Glad you got a good vacation.

At the game. Tried to post a pic. Not working from phone though.

So I've decided that Austin is a cool town. Lots of flooding going on over here though lately.

Twas a good game I saw several home runs and watched one of the worst teams in the AL take down one of the best teams in the AL.

Just landed back in Denver. And it was a rough flight. And I already don't like flying much.

Umm,,,there Isn’t such a thing or a vaccine for Hepatitis C. For one that supposedly works in this field and dealing with needles you would know this. Yes, you can be vaccinated against Hepatitis (A) & (B) common stuff, common vaccinations but you went into Heroin use and needles and also HepC as part of the job risk.

Could the job, cruise and everything about you be misleading?

BTW: please get back to me on your expertise about HepC.

Sometimes the smallest of claims brings down posers and the dishonest.
