Why do you drink?

Why do you drink?

To relax and/or be social, and I never drink alone (even though I love this song).

When younger I would also drink to get drunk, but I no longer do that. I hate being drunk and I hate the after-effects.

Why do you drink?

You can pick multiple options, as they fit.

To get drunk. Not smashed, but a good buzz is definitely on the agenda if I pour me one.

In the past, one would have usually ended with at least ten. But, these days, one leads to maybe two or three tops. I don't like hangovers anymore.

It's the only way I can tolerate Democrats.

I drink to relax and to celebrate. I try to only drink on weekends. So I celebrate surviving another week. It's a treat to myself on Friday night.
I like a beer with dinner when we go out to a restaurant. I like a beer with dinner at home.
At parties and family gatherings it a social beverage. Helps with the singing and inhibitions around such things.

I rarely drink enough to get drunk, but a good buzz once in a while sure feels good.

I'm Irish, Welch and Native American along with some German...definitely an alcoholic.

I have two beers per day.

When we were adults and would go home for the holidays, a bit of "defensive drinking," as I call it, would be done. ;)

Well, I don't drink alcohol (or energy drinks) at all.

I wanted to vote, but the only closest option was "I don't drink, but I wont want to be left out of a good poll."

Couldn't pick that one because I didn't want to be left out of a "bad" poll. ;)

Welcome to the club ;)

Although of course, my situation is a matter of being too young to legally drink (although I could EASILY get drinks illegally if I so choosed), I dont plan on doing so even when I do reach 21.

I have to. Who else is going to drink this stuff? It could go bad or something.

It's 16 here

To make other people more interesting.

German heritage. 2-4 beers a day, over a 4-6 hour span. Not sure if that qualifies for alcoholic or not. Don't think so.

I don't drink much.

Most of the time I just get a "taste in my mouth" for a certain kind of beer, or mixed drink, or a little Tennessee sippin' bourbon. One drink usually suffices.

Now and then I might have two drinks, usually if I feel the need to relax and chill, or I'm with someone who is drinking.

Two is the usual limit though, and sometimes I'll go a couple months and not touch a drop. Not a big thing for me, just an occasional enjoyment.

Because I'm out with friends, or I want to making playing xbox more fun. Don't drink very often though.

Do you really want to know? would be my first question. If so there are more than a few tests, or pre tests you can take. Pick a day and go without the beer for a week. If the thought of that scares you, we need to talk.

The man is dead now, but he died sober after nearly fifty years. He did not fit any medical description of an alcoholic, he only drank while on vacation, two weeks of the year. I can only imagine how bad those two weeks had to get so that he sought help.

As I look bad over my drinking 'career', I doubt I ever had or needed a "reason"; I needed a reason not to, which cleverly disguised my alcoholism for three decades. In all that time I never needed a drink. I just did. So did all the people around me.

I have learned to watch and observe too. The man or woman who sets down half a glass because they are 'tipsy' has nothing to worry about; the guy who, without being asked, explains his reasons probably has a problem
