Thanksgiving leftover etiquette

The other way of dealing with bacteria and their toxins is simply to bake broil or boil the leftovers for 5 minutes.

That's what I myself usually do with leftovers.

This kills the bacteria so they can't get started in your G/I tract and it neutralizes the toxins so they can't poison your liver.

Well it does kill the bacteria at any rate.

Does nuking work?

I think we've discussed this before, but let's do it. I'm heading down to Tucson tomorrow for Thanksgiving. The question is: Is it bad form to bring your own Tupperware for leftovers?

It's a little tacky, but not overly so. It certainly has a utilitarian quality, which I can appreciate.

Say hola to my uncle Juan for me. :)

If it's family, and you usually take leftovers home, then it's not only good form, it's considerate. The host doesn't have to have their containers occupied and not knowing when they'll get them back.

Not saying you would hold their containers hostage, just that sometimes there's a delay in reconnecting.

Just my 2c

ETA: I would leave the containers in the car and wait for them to offer first, though. I wouldn't walk in with them when I arrive. Even with close family that's a bit too presumptuous.

This was one of the bones of contention that my X and I used to go over and over.

Microwaving warms foods it does not cook them. The warming time is not long enough to deactivate bacterial toxins.

Microwaving will kill bacteria sure, but it is not a long enough heating time to deal with toxins.

However that should not be a problem for re-heating foods within a few days of their being originally cooked.

So you can use a microwave to re heat foods that you have cooked, and it will kill off the bacteria.

But you should NOT use a microwave to heat anything out of a can or that was raw to begin with.

Any post-Thanksgiving Gladware/leftovers success stories to report?

I didn't want to start a new thread so let's resurrect this one since there are new members around.
