Dim Sum

I loved doing dim sum for brunch in London. They had a zillion little dishes in my favorite restaurant in China Town.
I was fortunate to grow-up in a big-city neighborhood adjoining our city's main Chinatown, though there's several other Chinese and other Asian ethnic neighborhoods here, as well.

I was eating Dim Sum & Sze Chuan, before either style became popularized on a national level.

It may sound ridiculous, but my love of ethnic variety and quality in food, is one of the things that keeps me living in, or near, large cosmopolitan cities.

I just can't fathom the thought of permanently living 24/7/365 in the boonies - as great as they are to visit, and as much as they're loved by their denizens.

When Republican politicians get together.

Considering as diverse as the republican presidential candidates are(doctors, lawyers, governors, a black guy, Indian, couple of Hispanics, a woman, liberal establishment republicans, conservative republicans, religions republicans and republicans of different age groups) and as diverse as diverse dim sum is that makes sense.

PROTIP: Chinese food in America is radically different than Chinese food in mainland China. The Chinese waiter looked at me in a weird way when I tried to order General Tso's chicken and egg foo young in Hong Kong many years ago.

Yep, yep, no doubt.

My bucket-list has dim sum & noodle soup in Hong Kong, and sushi & sashimi in Tokyo (hopefully, before too long).

My wife's originally from Manilla, but has lived in both of the cities above, so hopefully I'll be in good hands.

We'll see.

Wow, that sounds wonderful. We have some really great restaurants and a huge grocery store centered on foods from that area. I love the sushi bar, and this great Korean place where you can cook your meat. I haven't done that part, but I love their food. We also have a very nice Chinese place, where the owner speaks Mandarin. I still speak some, learned it a few years ago, so I like to go there and try to keep up with him and some of his Mandarin speaking staff! So much fun.

It sounds like you enjoy ethnic food, and exploring other cultures, as much as I do!

I was born into a recently immigrated Polish-Italian family, where many of my relatives didn't speak English, and neither did many of my friends & neighbors in my Polish neighborhood. And one neighborhood over in my Mom's old neighborhood, most spoke Italian, including her relatives. So I was a young American kid living amongst foreign cultures, so-to-speak, from day one.

As each day goes by, I have one more reason to thank my lucky stars to have been born in a large, world-class, culturally & ethnically diverse city!

Sometimes luck beats skill ...

I do, it is wonderful! Cultures, food, languages, and people --- all the best things to discover in this life.

I wasn't born in a city, but I sure do love living in a place that offers such diversity in just about everything!
