And what happens to those who don't? Is there a difference?

Depends on the dream, and the result of either pursuing it or not. If the dream is sustainable and a person pursues it and it is also attainable, then the person should be extremely pleased if not happy. If the dream is not sustainable, but is achievable, then the person will have short lived pleasure and long term unhappiness to have their dream slip form their grasp. If the dream is sustainable, but not achievable, then the person may find pleasure in just the pursuit. if the dream is neither sustainable nor attainable, then it's just a dream and the person should try to realign their expectations.

IMHO...

And what happens to those who don't? Is there a difference?

They achieve them...then they die.

They try but fail to achieve them...then they die.

Ultimately? Everyone dies. :coffeepap

So doing what God wants us to do is the only thing for man to do right?

Those who don't achieve their dreams do get bitter to some extent.

It depends on whether you realize that the pursuit is the important part, or not. If you don't find joy in the pursuit of a dream, you've missed the significance of the effort entirely.

The Impossible Dream
( The Quest )

To dream ... the impossible dream ...
To fight ... the unbeatable foe ...
To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ...
To run ... where the brave dare not go ...

To right ... the unrightable wrong ...
To love ... pure and chaste from afar ...
To try ... when your arms are too weary ...
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

This is my quest, to follow that star ...
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...

To fight for the right, without question or pause ...
To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...

And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest,
That my heart will lie will lie peaceful and calm,
when I'm laid to my rest ...

And the world will be better for this:
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

Don Quixote, The Impossible Dream, lyrics

the pursuit of the dream is the important part

some may never attain....

but to never try.....
