congratulations, social security is not a handout like welfare, you earned that money with hard work and you deserve it.
Wrong. If you hate the American flag that much, why do you live here? there are several hundred alternative flags in nations that might suit your fancy better. No, social security is not a handout, as anyone with a job knows when they look at their paycheck. Welfare is a handout, welfare recipients do not pay into the system. There is a difference. A difference you apparently do not care to see, likely due to an MSNBC overdose, results may vary.
If you read more of the posts by conservatives in this and other forums, you will see that there is a general lumping together of all so-called entitlement programs, including Social Security. Since in Social Security,
your funds aren't separated into a specific account just for you, and you may or will be drawing on
their SS funds. People who get food stamps is another category. The food stamp program is welfare.
BTW, for those on welfare, they did pay into the system, in the form of taxes. They also probably paid proportionately more, since the higher income people pay a lower rate, after deductions and exemptions and credits.
It is also true that there is a group, or class, of southern conservatives who are especially demeaning to the so-called takers, while they themselves are takers (Obamacare subsidies, rent assistance, workers' comp, Social Security, etc.). Also, they may receive their benefits from their unions, while voting for Republicans, not realizing that the Democratic Party is responsible for their pensions and good health care provided by their pensions through their unions, and that if Republicans had their way, there would be no unions.
I know this because I come from the deep south and can state that there are indeed these people. I have members of my own family who are among them, and their extended families.
