"Thumbs" in plural for one knife? You imagined a two handed knife strike to open this package? Why the extra force?

Plus, one can use a knife without a thumb.

Two more chances remain.
This thread isn't really about why people don't carry knives.

Not entirely irrelevant to the OP, which requires knives to open products in shops rather than await an employee. But I got no interest to stick by in this thread anyway.

I still do. Have all my life. Of course I don't when traveling on planes but everywhere else sure.

I used to carry a folding box cutter on my belt all the time because I spent a lot of time opening boxes that came in the mail and it was just easier to flip it out. Now that I have other people to do that, I haven't recently, but I still have a couple of them in my desk drawer.

It takes literaly 2 seconds to cut the package off. I did this just yesterday for a Dremel atachment.

Yes. For one.

Stores don't care too much about the guy that is trying to steal ONE. They care about the guy that is trying to clear the entire shelf.

Small items prone to theft can often be found displayed on security hooks like these:

I just cut the package off the hook.

Am I the only one out there who does this? Just cut the package instead of deal with the hassle?

Since everywhere in the store is covered by security cameras and 2-way mirrors, cutting it off could land a person in jail for theft? Not sure. But no, I never cut them off. I'm one of those follow-the-rules kind of people. But I do try not to buy those, to avoid the hassle.

It's a shame deadbeats steal those items, or we wouldn't need such security.

At my local walmart, they keep the straight talk phone display only boxes on those, and i think who the hell is gonna steal and empty box? I am cool with potheads, but sometimes i think walmart needs to enforce the no smoking on the job rule, less we get more dumbassery like this.

Also just another gripe, every walmart stock boy seems to only speak spanish, and always lays out every box with spanish out so you have to flip them around to read the english side, a real tragedy since the extreme majority of the people where i live either speak english as a primary or secondary language.

It's not theft when put the item in your basket and pay for it at the register. Only difference is I'm removing the item from the display myself instead of getting an employee.

If I can get myself, though whatever means necessary (not destructive to anything other than maybe the packaging of the item itself), I do. I am not into seeking out the pimply-faced kid and asking permission if I don't have to.

There have been times that I chose to not purchase an item simply because I didn't want to deal with said pimply-faced kid, too. Store lost a sale.

I did it again today on a value pack of razors. I just cut the package, put it in my basket, paid for it, and went home.

No hassle trying to find an employee, who then needs to figure out who has the special gizmo to unlock the security gadget, to then find a plastic security box to put it in, to then hand it to a cashier, who then has to call a manager to open the plastic security box, and forget to disable the alarm, so I'm asked to show receipt at the door....

No, **** all that. I just cut the package, paid for it, went home, life goes on.

The package is just for show. They have other means of tracking the item.

I never stop to show anyone my receipt. They ask if they can see it, I say no and keep on going. Once I buy it, it's mine, they have no right whatsoever to examine it.

I don't mind if my things aren't desensitized.
