Me and SWMBO are celebrating our 25th anniversary next summer and we're trying to decide what to do. We want to do something different. Our vacations over the last decade have been the typical Disney Land, LA, camping variety and we want something new. We're looking to spend a couple of grand. We're thinking about a nice cruise or one of those all inclusive resort packages. Any ideas from the peanut gallery here?

I've been on three cruises, all Royal Caribbean, zero complaints. They have all kinds of short trips, 3 night, up to longer 10+ nights all over the place. Fantastic time, I highly recommend something along these lines.

Congrats! 25 years, that's awesome. That's a hard choice do you have any idea of a destination for either option?

We did the short 3 day cruise to Ensenada a while back. Had a great time.

Congratulations!!

Personally, I'm a fan of cruises. If you like outdoor stuff then most of the Alaska cruises are pretty good. The Caribbean cruises and Mexican cruises are better if you want to shop.

I haven't done it but I've heard that renting an RV and doing a driving tour of pretty much whatever you want to see can also be great fun. It might also tell you whether there is another 25 years in your future:lol:

I don't know if it's up your alley or not and it will probably be more than "a couple of grand" but one of my favorite things to do is head to Manhattan and just go nuts on food, shows, museums, sightseeing, baseball and pretty much anything else you can think of.

No idea yet. We thought it would be a great time to start planning though. We will stay in the Americas though. That much I do know.

Best wishes on the decision, and congrats on 25 years.

Like I said, it's going to be in the summer so I'm thinking Alaska would be great. Congratulations on 26 years.

most of Central America. cheap, fun, exotic, cultural - can't really go wrong. the southwest region of Nicaragua is an amazing place to city hop for a couple of weeks. hike in the jungle, surf on blue water, fish for gigantic tropical species, get poo flung at you by monkeys. amazing.

oh but I mean if you want to go the all-inclusive route, Jamaica is amazing. Alaska's a damn good idea too.

Several people I know haven't gone to far from home to celebrate their anniversaries. Stayed local, but booked a 4 day stay at the swankiest local hotel they could find, one that had all the amenities, masseuses came to the room, dinner delivered from 5 star restaurants.

No money wasted on travel, all spent very hedonistically.

I guess it depends on what you and SWMBO enjoy the most, and congratulations on the anniversary!

Mrs. Gauis and I did a cruise for our 20th, that was with the kids, and another for our 25th, alone. Both were loads of fun.

I have some friends who went on one of those European river cruises and absolutely loved it.

We stayed at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel for our 25th. Great place, good dining. Very relaxing.

Lake Yellowstone Inn – When one walks through the doors of Lake Yellowstone Inn, they are brought back to an era when one dressed up for dinner and only the wealthy visited Yellowstone. The dining room is reminded me of the Titanic dining room and makes one think of the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers. The sustainable cuisine of the restaurant rivals any fare in the US. Be sure to order a Yellowstone Caldera for dessert, it is a sensuous prelude to an evening moonlight stroll.

The only problem with that is my wife worked there many moons ago and doesn't want to go back this time.

We had our honeymoon there which is why we went back... that and it's only a couple of hours drive away. I do love the hotel though, it's like walking into a time warp of yesteryear.

Did she join the IPIOF club? :2razz:

She worked there the summer between her junior and senior years in high school and the following summer before she started college. She wants to go back, just not for our 25th.

I had a friend who worked a summer there sometime in the mid 80s... iirc around 86.

Looks like we are 95% go on the Alaska cruise. It will be about $2100 for the both of us plus airfare from Phx to Seattle and back. Should be a blast.

The wife and I are headed on a cruise to Mexico in May. I've never been on a cruise. Did south Mexico for our honeymoon... I'm sooooooo pumped. Good luck on yours.
