OK, let me start by saying if you are going to come in and give me a hard time, please just back out now.

I need help with a title and subtitle for a paper I have to write. I am having no issue with the paper itself, but I like big, catchy titles, and right now, I'm drawing a blank.

The paper is going to be about the young soldiers in the Vietnam war. How they were drafted so young, how they couldn't even vote but had to go to a war that no one understood. It's also about how they were constantly around toxins that ended up making them very sick, and also made their children sick. The last part will be about how the soldiers, once they came home, were treated poorly, and are still, to this day, homeless, hungry and receiving very little help.

This is not an argument for or against the war, or what has happened / is happening to the Vets.

I just need help with a title and a subtitle.

Thanks in advance, if anyone has any good ideas.

Here is a good title.
"Many generalizations of Vietnam Vets that do not hold true for most of the majority."

Well, that didn't take long, did it, Superfly?

Maybe you could provide us with a working title or two?

This might be a bit bland, but "How America failed its Vietnam Veterans" could serve as a title or subtitle.

Out of curiosity, what kind of class are you taking?

No, it didn't take long at all.

I don't really have much working right now - maybe a working title dealing with the cost of going to war - "The Cost of ___ " or "The Price of ___" and then subtitle it with something about the long-term effects of fighting a war they were too young to fight.

Just something like that. Or not. I don't know. I've been working on my paper off and on for several weeks now, and I'm just stuck on this title. So many papers have been done on this, and so many books written, that I don't want it to sound too much like anything else. That's where I'm stuck. That pesky plagiarism - can't get around it. :D

US History II.

And thanks for the title - will definitely keep it in mind. :D

Ah. I'm a history major who's about to graduate but the only U.S. history courses I've taken in college are about diplomacy and foreign policy and less about domestic developments, but it any case if you need any assistance I can give you a hand with finding good sources and recommendations depending on what the focus of your paper is.

I am just absorbing everything I can in this class. It's really interesting.

And thanks for the tip - I'd love some really good academic sources.

Do you by chance have access to a college or university library? And is your focus more on the veterans or about Vietnam policy in general?

We are supposed to have access to Galileo, but for whatever reason, they don't like giving out the sign in information.

And I'm looking more at the effect on the soldiers.

The story isn't just about post-service but the entire experience beginning to end. It sounds like along the way he lost faith and felt betrayed. If your story isn't finished, you may want to encompass it into one collective character - and then add facts on the larger scale supporting his personal experiences and challenges he faced thus documenting his personal sentiments and negative experiences were shared by many.

FORGOTTEN WARRIORS OF A FORGOTTEN WAR;
A Vietnam Veteran's Retrospections on Lost Innocence

If more just a history report, change the subtitle to plural (Vietnam Veterans' Lost Innocence)

I really, really, really wanted to write this in the perspective of a diary that a soldier kept, from beginning to end. While he said it was a very interesting idea, and would probably make for a very good read, he would rather I stick to the formula that the rest of the class is using.

Was rather disappointed.

And thanks for the title!

How does "18 and Death" catch your eye?

Perhaps listening to some of the old war songs might help inspire...

Ooo, deja vu. I think America lost a lot of it's innocence from the Vietnam War. Anyway, good luck finding a title for your paper....and be sure to let us know what it is after you decide. :)

Funny you mentioned that. I spent two days listening to Vietnam-era music, hoping for some inspiration. I listened to some pretty awesome music, but still couldn't get a title out of them.

This is terrific.

Needs a colon to separate the title and subtitle. Sorry; I can't help myself.
